Like abeacon of hope, The Tide® rises in Kosovo amid political uncertainty

Even as nation faces snap elections, a new church building in Gjakova serves as center for Gospel proclamation and compassionate outreach

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Kosovo remains caught in a deep political stalemate after parliament failed to elect a new president by the March 5 constitutional deadline. An opposition boycott left the session without the necessary quorum, forcing President Vjosa Osmani to dissolve the assembly soon after. The move set the stage for snap legislative elections — the third in just over a year — amid heated debate over the process and a temporary Constitutional Court intervention. Even against this backdrop of uncertainty, The Tide® (www.thetide.org) ministry sees encouraging signs of enduring change, as its Gospel broadcasts and local partners continue to spark both spiritual growth and practical transformation across the region.

The Tide’s Albanian-language radio programs continue to share Christ’s message of hope in a predominantly Muslim nation with a history marked by conflict, where evangelical believers form a small minority. These broadcasts, produced in partnership with local pastors since 2015, have contributed to planting new churches and fostering positive responses in communities.

Don Shenk, executive director of The Tide, stated, “Even as Kosovo faces repeated elections and political challenges that test national stability, the Gospel of Jesus Christ offers an anchor of true peace and purpose that transcends any government or crisis. Our broadcasts and the ministries they support demonstrate how Christ’s love brings healing and hope to individuals and communities in need.”

In Gjakova, a newly completed church building represents a major milestone after years of vision and effort. The Tide’s radio pastor, who leads two congregations and directs outreach initiatives, reflected on the achievement:

“About 18 years ago, this vision was born in the midst of our prayers and worship — a divinely inspired dream. Five years ago, that dream began to take shape…” he said.

“This building, beloved by God, is not simply the home of the Rilindja Church, but a Center of Action and Hope for every citizen of Kosovo,” He continued. “In addition to proclaiming our Savior Jesus Christ, this will be a warm home; shelter for single mothers and widows; an educational center for children who have dropped out of school; concrete help for families in need and for the forgotten elderly; a welcoming place for people with special abilities, giving them the dignity they deserve; a collaboration platform for associations and other communities seeking space for good ministries and projects.”

“This church stands today as a beacon of hope for Gjakova, a reminder that light always triumphs over darkness.”

Complementing this, the ministry in nearby Klina advances steadily, holding services multiple times weekly and expanding into two new villages with hundreds of children eagerly participating in learning and engagement.

Compassion efforts have included distributing food parcels to 10 families facing extreme poverty, supplying three meters of firewood per family to 10 households for winter warmth, and delivering 100 shoebox gifts via Operation Christmas Child to children — including those with special needs, from church families, and street children — spreading joy and reminding them of their value.

Future plans focus on literacy classes to reintegrate school dropouts and homeschool support to assist families in educating their children at home.

Shenk remarked, “In times of political instability and uncertainty, such as the current crisis in Kosovo that has led to parliamentary dissolution and impending snap elections, the unchanging message of Christ’s love brings true stability and hope. We are grateful for our radio pastor and partners who are not only proclaiming the Gospel but living it out through compassionate ministries that meet real needs and point people to the light that overcomes any darkness.”

The Tide’s mission emphasizes heart-language media to reach underserved areas, supporting discipleship, church planting, and community care in challenging environments.

From its humble origins in 1946 as a local Gospel radio broadcast in Chambersburg, PA, The Tide® ministry has grown into a global network of Christian media broadcasting partnerships committed to worldwide evangelism and discipleship. In 2008, The Tide® ministry ended all English-language programming in order to focus on developing and distributing indigenous heart-language content in areas around the world that are less touched by the Gospel. Today, The Tide® ministry works with partners in multiple countries across three continents to broadcast Gospel-centered messages via radio, satellite TV and other media. In order to make disciples and plant churches, The Tide® ministry also provides resources for literature distribution, correspondence courses, discipleship and leadership training activities, and the distribution of radios and media players.
