DAYTON, OHIO— Kimberly Fletcher, mother of eight and founder and president of Moms for America® (www.MomsforAmerica.us) responds to the recent news headline about how a family of three was thrown off a United Airlines flight from Denver to Newark—and was initially told they were banned from the airline for life—because their two-year-old kept pulling off her mask.
“Whoever made this law has never had a two-year-old,” says Fletcher. “We used to laugh at the ridiculousness of this whole mask nonsense, but it is no longer funny. When you mess with our kids you’ve crossed a line you don’t want to mess with. It is absolutely unacceptable that a family was thrown off their flight because their toddler wouldn’t wear a mask.”
Although the parents were shielding her face, that was not enough to comply with the draconian airline regulation that expects a toddler to be able to follow a mask mandate. The family of three was told they needed to exit the airplane, and that they were banned for life from the airline. Their three suitcases and car seat were not removed from the plane, leaving the family stranded.
“This mask ‘mandate’ is out of control,” said Fletcher. “Women are being required to wear masks during childbirth, children are being forced to wear masks and people with asthma and other health issues are being forced to wear masks when even the CDC said they should not because it poses greater health risks.
“If it really was necessary, really did make a difference, and really was in their best interest, I would work my mama magic to do what was needed to keep her safe. But the fact is that none of this true. This is a huge political lie. The abuse, intimidation and bullying will stop! Corporations need to stop caving to the media hype. United Airlines cannot offer any explanation that makes this acceptable!”
Families have been getting mixes messages for months as preschools remain open because young children don’t pose a great risk from the virus, at the same time CDC guidelines recommend masking children at age two and up in public places.
The airline later refunded the family’s tickets and returned their suitcases and car seat, and the family was not banned for life. The airline claims the mask mandate for children ages two and older is an industry-wide policy and is under review.
