‘Biblically speaking, the other problems we are facing can actually be caused by God’s judgments upon a country that commits iniquity and promotes the many abominations that plague our own nation’

TUPELO, Miss. —A recent Barna poll surveyed American Evangelicals for 21 issues, and the results were troubling — the rising cost of living had “a lot of influence” on 61% of those surveyed, but only 46% cited right to life, and an abysmal 36% said religious freedom would have significant influence on their vote. Considering the critical outcomes that will result from the 2022 mid-term elections, these conclusions are highly concerning to many religious leaders and organizations across the country.
The discouraging results have American Family Association (AFA, www.AFA.net) raising a red warning flag. American Family Association Executive Vice President Ed Vitagliano said if American Christians don’t readjust their voting priorities back to biblical values, the results might be disastrous, both for the nation and the Church.
“While Christians are no doubt suffering economically like everyone else, it is disturbing to see that questions of morality and values like religious liberty are just not as important as prices at the pump and the grocery store,” Vitagliano commented. “Does this mean, for example, that many Christians would vote for a candidate who promised a better economy even if they supported immorality? Moreover, Christians should remember that, biblically speaking, the other problems we are facing can actually be caused by God’s judgments upon a country that commits iniquity and promotes the many abominations that plague our own nation. If American Christians have left their first love, it’s more than short-sighted — it’s spiritually suicidal.”
