American Family Association Urges Senators to Fully Repeal Obamacare, Defund Planned Parenthood and Ban Funding to Abortion Providers
AFA: Repeal Obamacare ‘Root and Branch,’
as Republicans Touted on the Campaign Trail
TUPELO, Miss.—As the nation watches the progression of the heated health care debate, the American Family Association (AFA, www.afa.net) is weighing in, urging concerned Americans to contact their senators and tell them to fully repeal Obamacare.
In a new Action Alert, AFA told its more than one million friends and supporters that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is calling for the Senate to consider the 2015 Obamacare “partial repeal” legislation passed by Congress but vetoed by President Barack Obama.
As part of the Obamacare repeal efforts, AFA has insisted that Planned Parenthood be defunded and any funding to abortion providers be prohibited. AFA has also maintained the position that Obamacare should be repealed 100 percent, or “root and branch,” as Republicans touted on the campaign trail. The partial repeal afforded by the 2015 bill is a starting point.
“While AFA may not agree with every detail of this legislation, it is a real ‘discussion draft’ that allows the GOP to advance toward a full repeal of Obamacare,” said AFA President Tim Wildmon. “Now, we must urge our senators to push for a clean repeal of Obamacare, defund Planned Parenthood and ban any funding to abortion providers.”
AFA also noted that three Republican senators—Shelley Moore Capito (W.Va), Susan Collins (Maine) and Lisa Murkowski (Alaska)—have defected to the Democrats in the fight to keep Obamacare.
The 2015 partial repeal McConnell is now considering rolled back much of Obamacare, including Medicaid expansion, insurance subsidies and the individual and employer mandates. The bill, however, did not repeal Obamacare’s rules and regulations that increased insurance premiums and health care costs.
“It is time for Senator McConnell to put a 100 percent Obamacare repeal bill to a floor vote,” Wildmon added. “If Democrats and a handful of Republicans want to vote against a clean repeal, causing Obamacare to remain, then so be it. Let the chips fall where they may. This way, the good people of America can decide in future elections if they liked their senators’ vote to keep Obamacare.”
AFA also provided a way for visitors to the site to contact their senators with a note urging Obamacare repeal.
