American Family Association Encourages Churches to ‘Return to Solid Biblical Teaching’

‘God is Willing and Able to Save Our Neighbors, But Who Will be Saved if No One Preaches the Truth to Them?’

TUPELO, Miss. — A recent article by the Christian Post states that at least 60% of young adults (under the age of 40) believe that Jesus Christ is not the only way to salvation in heaven. The majority of young Americans believe that Jesus is equal to Muhammad or Buddha in terms of eternal salvation, and this pluralistic worldview is spreading rapidly. Over 30% of these study participants claimed to believe that either Jesus sinned like any other man, or they are not sure.

This striking decline in a basic biblical worldview is shocking to evangelicals all around the world. For the American Family Association (AFA, www.afa.net), these startling statistics indicate a deeper issue within the Christian community, as well as the state of the nation.

“These survey results are discouraging, but they are also eye-opening,” stated AFA Executive Vice President Ed Vitagliano. “They explain why our nation continues to decay––in fact, the pace of corruption is clearly accelerating––and why there is so much despair, violence, and pain in America. When a people openly defy God or even ignore Him in self-centered arrogance, they cut themselves off from life. They begin to die and their institutions begin to rot before their very eyes.

“Church leaders must return to solid biblical teaching––or continue unapologetically teaching the truth if they have already been doing so. Christians in the pews must be bold in their witness for Christ and prepare themselves to disciple those who turn to the faith. Yes, our culture has rapidly become pagan, but that provides a unique opportunity to present the gospel to millions of Americans who have essentially never heard it. God is willing and able to save our neighbors, but who will be saved if no one preaches the truth to them?”

AFA is dedicated to bringing the U.S. back to biblical basics. They have recently created “By Design” – a project to reintroduce America to the scriptural definition of marriage. “By Design” reclaims the truth of marriage and family as defined by God. The hope for “By Design” is to remind the American people that God’s plan is always perfect; He created a flawless design for marriage, and by adhering to and following His Word, human civilization can thrive while celebrating the true purpose of marriage and family.

For over 40 years, AFA has operated within the mission to inform, equip, and activate individuals to strengthen the moral foundations of American culture and give aid to the church here and abroad in its task of fulfilling the Great Commission.  Founded in 1977, AFA has long been on the front lines of America’s culture war.
