American Family Association Urges Concerned Citizens to Tell Congress to Fund the President’s Wall
AFA: Border Security Is a Matter of National Security
TUPELO, Miss.—When the security of American families is threatened by outside forces, the security of our nation is at risk.
This is the urgent call from the American Family Association (AFA, www.afa.net), which is encouraging concerned citizens to contact their members of Congress and tell them to fund President Donald Trump’s border wall, especially after President Trump on Saturday offered a compromise package on immigration in an effort to end the nearly monthlong partial government shutdown. Some Democrats, though, called the olive branch a “non-starter” before Trump even spoke, reported Fox News.
“Border security is a matter of national security,” said AFA President Tim Wildmon. “Hardly anyone will dispute the decades-long invasion of those who have entered the country illegally. As a result, American families have been victimized and terrorized by sex traffickers, drug dealers and other violent criminals. Securing the border is a moral issue. It’s time to set aside partisan politics.”
Through an Action Alert sent to its nearly 1 million friends and supporters, AFA is strongly encouraging Americans to become engaged in this very important crossroads facing the country and make their voices heard.
This is in light of a new 34,500-respondent survey AFA conducted last week, which found that nearly all survey respondents (98%) view border security as an important issue. An overwhelming number of AFA supporters (96%) agree with President Trump’s plan to secure the southern border with a wall. The most startling statistic is the overwhelming majority (90%) of AFA supporters want President Trump to continue the partial government shutdown—now the longest in U.S. history—to force Congress to fund construction for the border wall.
“The U.S. Constitution, Article Four, Section Four, states the ‘United States shall guarantee to every State a republican form of government and shall protect each of them against invasion,’” Wildmon added. “Providing this security is a mandatory function of the national government, but federal lawmakers, Democrats and Republicans alike, have refused to seize the moment. Now, President Trump is demanding that Congress perform its constitutional duty and protect its citizens. AFA agrees and urges citizens to contact Congress now.
“Every person who illegally enters the United States of America breaks the law, but not all law breakers are equal,” he continued. “Illegal migrant entry into the country for illegal employment may seem benign, but such an allowance also paves the way for the entry of illegal aliens involved in sex trafficking and drug trafficking. Also among these illegals are violent criminals and suspected terrorists.”
For the survey last week, AFA reported that Fiscal Year 2018, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported the arrest of 17,000 individuals with criminal records. The CBP apprehends about 21 wanted criminals every day at the southern border. For those illegal aliens already in the country, ICE officers arrested 266,000 aliens with criminal records over the past two years. These arrests included those charged or convicted of 100,000 assaults and nearly 30,000 sex crimes.
Also, according to the survey, “Republican advocates for a physical wall point to the Laredo Sector of the United States Border in Laredo, Texas. This area has over 150 miles without a constructed barrier between the U.S. and Mexico. Democratic opponents of a physical wall say the Rio Grande river is a sufficient, natural barrier. Therefore, they say no wall is necessary. They say border monitoring technology is a better solution to prevent illegal aliens from crossing the southern border into the U.S. On the other hand, President Trump and Republican leadership say a wall is a necessary, first defense against sex trafficking, as well as preventing illegal drugs and violent criminals from entering the country.”
“President Trump has made it clear that the Democratic-controlled House must perform its constitutionally mandated responsibility by passing a bill funding the construction of a border wall,” Wildmon concluded. “Furthermore, the president knows he must hold the line on immigration or his base will abandon him and he will have no chance for re-election in 2020.”
