Christian Conservatives Name American Family Association Among Most Effective Change Organizations
Respondents to New American Culture & Faith Institute Survey Rank AFA No. 4 in List of 20 Culturally Impactful Organizations; President Tim Wildmon Also Named Top Influential Leader
TUPELO, Miss.—Christian conservatives have ranked the American Family Association (AFA, www.afa.net) one of the most culturally influential organizations in the nation.
A new national survey among Christian conservatives conducted by the American Culture & Faith Institute (ACFI) found that several non-profit organizations are viewed as real changemakers in the American culture. The survey asked people to identify the organizations, of any type, they believe made the most positive impact on American society during 2016. AFA was ranked No. 4 on the list.
“The American Family Association is honored that Christian conservatives rely on AFA to affect real change throughout this great nation,” said AFA President Tim Wildmon. “These survey results are especially fitting, as we will mark 40 years of culture change this summer. My father, Don Wildmon, started the American Family Association in 1977 to be a significant presence on the frontlines of America’s culture war. Four decades ago, he had no idea how far God would lead this ministry, but everyone could clearly see that my father was called toward restoring Christian values in our culture. Today, we are blessed that so many have been impacted by his vision and our ongoing work.”
ACFI routinely surveys SAGE Cons—Spiritually Active, Governance Engaged Conservatives—who ranked the top 20 organizations most effective at leading positive cultural change in the U.S. during 2016. Rounding out the top 10 were:
- American Center for Law & Justice (chosen by 35%)
- Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (33%)
- Samaritan’s Purse (29%)
- American Family Association (27%)
- Focus on the Family (23%)
- Family Research Council (22%)
- Fox News (19%—the only for-profit group on the list)
- Heritage Foundation (17%)
- National Right to Life (16%)
- Judicial Watch (14%)
In a separate study from ACFI, SAGE Cons were asked about the nation’s most popular cultural leaders, as well as the individuals, both political and religious, deemed to be most effective at leading cultural change. Wildmon garnered a 54 percent ranking in that list, with Vice President Mike Pence at the top of the list with 98 percent.
Thus far this year, AFA has impacted the culture with its highly successful #BoycottTarget, which has garnered 1.5 million signatures from those in opposition to the retailer’s dangerous and misguided restroom and fitting room policy.
Likewise, AFA’s Action Alerts have brought many pressing issues to Americans’ attention, including Christian business owners who fought back against a progressive agenda, the defunding of Planned Parenthood, the appointment of Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch, Texas protecting children’s privacy, stopping physician-assisted suicide in Washington, D.C., plus many more. These alerts are distributed to more than a million AFA friends and supporters, who take action in tangible ways.
