During Its 75th Year, The Tide® Celebrates their Growing Mission through Live Scripture Readings

The Tide Ministry Commemorates History with Gospel Readings in Various Languages Throughout Historic Camp

July 26, 2021

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.— With a goal of spreading the Gospel around the globe, The Tide® (www.TheTide.org) is continuing to celebrate its 75th anniversary at Roxbury Camp and Conference Center, a historic setting for the organization. During the week of July 30th to August 8th, The Tide® is planning to have multiple volunteers reading sections of the Gospel in multiple languages for an hour and a half a day. In order to help the staff and campers, The Tide® plans on setting up a large monitor with the translation and language information.

Don Shenk, director of The Tide®, states, “In addition to gaining visibility during the camp while also engaging campers in a spiritual discipline, this gospel read aloud will be a celebration of the fact that over the past 75 years God has opened the door for The Tide ministry to now be sharing God’s Word and the truth about Jesus with people in their own languages in multiple countries and regions around the world.”

The location of this heart-felt observance is significant as well. Roxbury Camp, located in Orrstown, PA, is the very same camp that founder, Rev. C. B. Byers, played a leading role in helping to establish in the mid-1930s. Byers also served as the annual camp meeting director from 1941-1977, and one of the buildings on the grounds has been named the Byers Conference Center in his memory. The annual camp meeting is held every year in early August, so it often coincides with the anniversary of Charlie’s first radio broadcast on August 11, 1946. For several years, the radio program would be broadcast live over the camp loudspeakers on Sunday mornings.

Says Shenk of the event, “Essentially, our focus is that what started as a gospel seed touching the camp 75 years ago is now an international mission outreach ministering to millions of people around the globe.”

Millions of people in multiple regions on three continents can hear Gospel content recorded in 30 heart languages, or local languages, including those in Afghanistan, Albania, Bhutan, India, Kosovo, Mozambique, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Thailand, and Zimbabwe.
