TORONTO — As Canadiansacross the country prepare to celebrate Canada Day on Friday, July 1, Fellowship of Christian Athletes Canada (FCA Sports) is proud to partner with Domino’s Pizza to launch the highly anticipated “Pro-Athlete Experience” at the “Canada Day Together” event in Mississauga on July 1, 2022 from 2-7pm ET. This outstanding event offers a select number of student athletes ages ten-16 to spend one-on-one time with one of four former professional athletes and learn what it really means to go pro and play with purpose.

Joining the FCA Sports staff will be former NFL athlete and Grey Cup champion Swayze Waters. Waters played in the Canadian Football League from 2012 to 2017 during his career with the Toronto Argonauts and Edmonton Eskimos, successfully converting 112 field goals in 142 attempts, a 78.9 percent success rate, over his career.

“Friends, family, fans, the media and seemingly everyone will try to define you by your sport, your position, your success, and your failure. Christian athletes get to say ‘no’ to all of that because our identity is firm and unchanging as sons and daughters of God through Jesus,” said Waters.

Now a free agent, Waters will be joined by fellow former professional athletes for the “Pro-Athlete Experience,” including Canadian Olympian Sarah Chaudhery, former pro-hockey player Ryan Mulder, and former pro-rugby player Sean-Michael Stephen.

FCA Sports Divisional Vice President Hans Ostrem stated, “This year we are launching something new as an addition to our FCA Sports Experience on Canada Day! FCA Sports asked these amazing four former pro-athletes to engage one-on-one with student athletes and share how they learned to play with purpose within their sport and lives. We believe that playing with purpose means knowing and understanding that God created every person for purpose. What an opportunity to have these professionals engage, equip and empower the next generation!”

The event last took place in 2019 — before the pandemic — and saw over 9,000 people participate in the Canada Day festivities. Now open to the public again, FCA Sports leadership expects more attendees than ever before, especially with this Pro-Athlete Experience.
