Health Care Sharing Through Samaritan Ministries Enhances Any Size of Household Family Budget
Meredith in Tennessee Says, ‘We Have Felt Loved by the Body of Christ and Cared for Both Financially and Spiritually as We’ve Navigated Unexpected Family Health Bills’
PEORIA, Ill.—As children return to school this fall, and families face extra expenses for clothing, school supplies, sports equipment and even gasoline for “Mom’s Taxi” or “Dad’s Cab,” unexpected health care bills can be an unwelcome addition to already tight budgets.
But families who are members of Samaritan Ministries International (samaritanministries.org), one of the leading health care sharing ministries in America, know their medical bills will be shared among Samaritan’s 82,000-plus member households—more than 270,000 individuals. And the monthly financial share amount for families fits better into their budgets.
“We hear from families every day who are so thankful they found health care sharing and Samaritan Ministries,” said Anthony Hopp, Samaritan Ministries vice president of external relations. “Family budgets are truly transformed, and the worry about mounting medical bills is reduced. Plus, besides sending monthly financial shares directly to other families, Samaritan Ministries members also lift up fellow members through cards of encouragement, personal notes and prayer. It’s a God-honoring, Biblical model of health care that is based on Galatians 6:2—that we as Christians would bear one another’s burdens—and it works wonderfully for thousands of families all over the world.”
Hopp also noted that many young and growing families choose the membership level called Samaritan Basic, which has an even lower monthly share coupled with a higher initial unshared amount than Samaritan Classic. This gives both present and future members two options for choosing what they believe is best for their families—and their budgets. Monthly shares for Samaritan Basic start as low as $100 for one person; some guidelines differ between Samaritan Basic and Samaritan Classic.
Jason and Heather in Texas said they love being a part of Samaritan Ministries.
“Being able to come alongside other members in their time of need is a rewarding experience,” they said. “Having others come alongside our family in our time of need helps us feel God’s love and support for us and reminds us that we are all in this together!”
Meredith, a member from Tennessee, said she is happy to tell others about Samaritan Ministries.
“I often tell friends who are hesitant to consider a Christian health sharing ministry that Samaritan has been the ONLY organization to operate exactly as they advertise/promise on the front end,” Meredith said. “We have felt loved by the Body of Christ and cared for both financially and spiritually as we’ve navigated unexpected family health bills this year. I am so thankful to God for Samaritan Ministries.”
Jonathan and Micaela in Kansas say their family has been “so blessed” by health care sharing through Samaritan Ministries.
“We signed up with Samaritan as soon as we got married, and less than a year later we had a baby!” they said. “We had a few complications during pregnancy and post-partum that ended us in the ER twice, but, thanks to Samaritan, all our needs were shared and the last thing on our list to worry about was finances. Samaritan has felt like family to us and we are so grateful.”
Jay from Minnesota said he was able to focus on his recovery because other Samaritan member families were uplifting and supportive.
“This process of people helping people absolutely blessed me and my family,” Jay said. “I was able to get the care and the procedures to correct my medical need without the burden of financial strains. This would not have been possible without the help of Samaritan Ministries and its members. God has been truly amazing in my healing and in meeting all my needs for this injury. I am extremely grateful for Samaritan Ministries and highly recommend them. Thank you so much to all the members who gave and lifted me up during this need in my life.”
Julia from Michigan said experiencing two pregnancies as a Samaritan member was an “incredible blessing.”
“I’ve had both of my pregnancies shared, and it is such a blessing to be able to enjoy growing our family without the financial stress that would be caused with insurance companies,” Julia said, “especially since we have used a midwife and had a home birth with our first born and are planning the same for our second. What an incredible blessing Samaritan has been.”
Like Julia, Christopher and Paige in Kentucky had a “wonderful” experience with Samaritan as their family grew.
“We’ve grown in faith as we trusted God to meet our needs,” they said. “We had a baby this year, and, while our families were concerned about the medical bills, we were amazed at how our providers worked with us and how promptly our needs were sent.”
Justin, a Samaritan member from Idaho, had two simple words to say: “Thank you!”
“Samaritan has been so amazing for our family,” he said. “Our financial burdens have been made lighter, and it is such a pleasure to write my check every month! I had never felt so grateful to be giving a check to someone before. I am thankful to help make their hard time be a little easier. What a blessing Samaritan is!”
Each month, Samaritan members send their financial shares directly to other members, along with notes and cards of encouragement, through this effective, God-honoring ministry. Samaritan’s growing Biblical community shares approximately $29 million in medical needs person-to-person each month. In fact, Samaritan members have shared $1.8 billion in needs over the past 25 years.
