‘Hundreds of Cards and Checks’ Lead to Tears for Samaritan Ministries Members
As Bills Mount, Encouraging Notes and Prayers Pile Up with Multigenerational Impact for Members of Leading Health Care Sharing Ministry
June 24, 2020
One of the great surprises repeatedly proven by Samaritan Ministries International (samaritanministries.org), a leading health care sharing ministry, is that members not only share—they care.
Recipients of shares—monetary gifts from fellow Samaritan members to help pay for health care needs—routinely draw encouragement from the notes those members enclose.
The impact is multigenerational for Samaritan members like Christopher and Naomi of North Dakota, who tucked some of the notes in their premature son’s baby book.
“Words cannot describe how thankful we are for Samaritan Ministries,” Naomi said. “We are so grateful to members who have helped share the burden of my maternity and our son’s premature needs. The notes of encouragement we received have been put in Simeon’s baby book for a reminder to all of us how believers in Christ lifted him up in prayer. What an amazing ministry this is, and we are so thankful to be a part of it.”
Notes accompanying shares often include prayers or promises to pray for healing—and, occasionally, tangible gifts. The abundant compassion behind the financial generosity of Samaritan members impressed Cody and Laura from South Carolina, and their young daughter.
“We rarely have needs, but when our daughter was hospitalized with a stomach bug and we were faced with collecting and submitting the bills, everyone I spoke with was so kind and helpful,” Cody said. “And the prayers and notes from members truly touched our hearts. My daughter was amazed at the people who sent special little things for her in their note.”
Samaritan members experience health care needs like everyone else, but when the bills pile up, so do the shares, prayers, and notes—by the hundreds, when necessary.
“Samaritan Ministries has been a huge blessing in our lives,” said Samaritan member Theresa of Missouri. “We had several needs met in 2019, including a large one for my husband’s heart attacks and surgery. It was the first time Save to Share came into play, and we were so grateful. Hundreds of cards and checks poured in. We have shed many tears over the generosity and compassion of our fellow Samaritan brothers and sisters in Christ.”
Save to Share is an optional program that allows Samaritan members to share medical needs exceeding $250,000. The largest health care need Samaritan members have shared to date through Save to Share is $2.6 million, and Save to Share is designed to address even larger needs when that challenge arises.
Through this effective, God-honoring ministry, over a quarter of a million Samaritan Ministries members are sharing approximately $30 million in medical needs person to person each month. In fact, over the past 25 years, Samaritan Ministries members have shared over $1.8 billion in health care needs.
