The Tide® Ministry Partners with Pastors to Reach People in Their Own Language

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.—Around the world, pastors are doing all they can to reach the people of their nations with the life-saving message of the Gospel. And The Tide® (www.thetide.org) global radio ministry is partnering with them for this enormous task.

For 70 years, The Tide ministry has been working with indigenous pastors in countries around the world to produce Gospel radio programs in the languages people were born to speak. The Tide ministry recently added its 24th heart language—Telugu—spoken by 74 million people in India.

“The Tide is blessed to work with pastors around the world to create and air radio programs that tell of Jesus Christ, His saving grace and how only He has the power to change lives,” said The Tide Director Don Shenk. “Working with local pastors is significant, because we aren’t merely translating words into another language. But instead, someone is personally telling them about Jesus in their own language. And these pastors know the people they are speaking to, who their families are, the challenges they face and their needs. We not only pray for the souls God has yet to save, but also for the pastors we are working with to reach them, as sometimes they face great difficulties, even persecution and danger.”

As an example, Shenk shared a story about Pastor Lenka, who was sharing the Gospel in India. Villagers there, however, were hostile and threated to beat him if he ever returned. Soon after, two of the villagers were working in the forest and encountered three elephants. They climbed a tree, calling in the name of their gods for rescue. Nobody came. But then they remembered Pastor Lenka and his Gospel message, asked for forgiveness from Jesus and prayed to Him to rescue them from the deadly situation. The elephants moved, and the men returned home unharmed. Now, they have asked Pastor Lenka to continue sharing the Gospel in their village and have accepted Jesus as their personal Savior.

As it continues to reflect on 70 years, The Tide ministry broadcasts the Gospel of Jesus Christ through radio programming in heart languages around the world, bringing the truth and hope of the Savior to people in the language they were born to speak. Spreading the Gospel in multiple regions of Zimbabwe, India, Nigeria, Nepal, Bhutan, Albania and Kosovo, The Tide global radio ministry praises God for the many doors He has opened in the seven decades it has been in existence.

For 70 years, The Tide radio programs have been changing lives by telling people about Jesus in the language they were born to speak. Founded in 1946 as the Gospel Tide Broadcasting Association, The Tide ministry has transitioned from a domestic radio program to a versatile multi-national outreach focusing on the least reached regions of the world. Through radio broadcasts in 24 heart languages, thousands of lost people are coming to know Christ. Driven by a sense of urgency to rescue the world from false teachings and pagan religious practices, The Tide board of directors is constantly working to introduce evangelistic radio programs in additional languages so that an ever increasing number of people can hear the good news about Jesus and His love for them.

The Tide outreach includes discipleship seminars, literature distribution, Bible correspondence courses and leadership training. This combination of ministry elements has proven to be extremely effective in changing lives and planting churches where believers are nurtured in their faith so that whole communities are drawn into the Kingdom of God.
