Pro-Life Advocate Kim Ketola: Cecile Richards Has Been One of the Loudest and Most Effective Voices Advancing the Dangerous Abortion Deception, But Her Departure from Planned Parenthood Will Not Solve the Problem

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga.—With widespread reports that Cecile Richards will be stepping down as the president of Planned Parenthood, many are applauding an end to the death count under her tenure—thought to be 3.5 million babies.

Pro-life advocate, radio host and author Kim Ketola says that others are speculating that Richards is stepping away at a moment when she can claim she fought back against defunding efforts, even as the organization is under investigation by the Department of Justice. Some are calling for compassion and prayers for Richards’ conversion, while others are cheering her to run for office.

“My thought is that Cecile Richards is not the problem,” Ketola said. “The problem is the mindset that says we must destroy the youngest members of the human family to secure a better future for women. She has certainly been one of the loudest and most effective voices advancing this dangerous deception. But that deadly thinking is pervasive in our culture, and if you remove Cecile Richards from the conversation, it will continue as it did before she rose to prominence 10 years ago.

Ketola added that Richards has certainly been extremely adept at blurring the lines between politics and health care.

“But the gravy train will keep rolling down the tracks, funneling taxpayer dollars to Planned Parenthood’s 501(c)(3) non-profit health care services only to have Planned Parenthood’s PAC turn around and donate millions back to the candidates who pledge to vote their way,” Ketola added. “And yes, I hope her exit slows that down or even brings it to a halt.

“Cecile Richards may be difficult to replace,” she continued, “but there is no shortage of politically savvy women who have aborted their own children who are now staking everything on the careers those abortions facilitated. I hope her exit gives her time to reflect on her own need to repent and heal. She may have had singular resolve to stick to the talking points in the face of evidence of illegal activity. And yes, I hope justice will be served.

But Planned Parenthood is responsible for only one-third of all abortions in the U.S., Ketola noted.

“If every Planned Parenthood facility closed tomorrow, we would still have to contend with thousands of other providers and hundreds of thousands of women who would still need real help, real support and real hope.

“My guess is that Cecile Richards’ departure will do nothing to reduce the number of abortions overall. And even if by God’s grace abortion were to become illegal today, our work would have just begun, because there would still be women who believe their answer in life is to destroy their own flesh and blood through abortion. And having believed that, they will stop short of nothing to accomplish it—not unless they find the love that will help them see and choose a better way. And not even Cecile Richards can limit our ability to do that today.

Ketola’s program, “Cradle My Heart Today” (www.CradleMyHeart.org), provides daily truth and inspiration to choose and defend life through a one-minute radio feature airing on more than 800 stations.

Ketola, an excellent storyteller and award-winning writer and broadcaster, has used her talents, along with her faith and her own abortion experience, to unveil one of the biggest untold stories of our time—the spiritual impact of abortion on the women and men who choose it, as well as the hope available to make a better choice.
