Professional Athletes and Coaches Rave About Joshua Cooley’s New Book, ‘The Biggest Win’

Released This Summer, ‘The Biggest Win’ Provides an Inside Look Into the Faith of Super Bowl-Winning Philadelphia Eagles Players

PHILADELPHIA—In his new book, The Biggest Win,” premier sports writer Joshua Cooley tells the faith stories of six members of the 2017 Super Bowl-winning Philadelphia Eagles team.

Other professional athletes and coaches are loving the book as well.

In “The Biggest Win,” soon to be released by New Growth Press on July 30, Cooley gives athletes and sports fans of all ages a unique, insider’s look into the lives and faith of Carson Wentz, Nick Foles, Zach Ertz, Trey Burton, Jordan Hicks and Chris Maragos. Through the ups and downs of their experiences, Cooley shows how these high-profile athletes remain committed to God’s Word, genuine Christian discipleship and sharing their faith.

It’s the Eagles players’ commitment to Christ that’s engaging their peers from the professional sports world.

Adrian Gonzalez, five-time All-Star first baseman with the New York Mets, said he “couldn’t read this book fast enough.”

“Throughout my baseball career, I always long for teammates who are hungry for God’s Word and bold about their love for Jesus Christ, just like the 2017 Philadelphia Eagles were during their Super Bowl season,” Gonzalez said. “‘The Biggest Win’ inspired me—and it will do the same for you—because it shows what genuine Christian faith looks like for any athlete as we compete.”

Frank Reich, former offensive coordinator for the Eagles and new head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, personally saw these stories play out on the field last season.

“As the Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive coordinator during their Super Bowl LII championship season, I enjoyed a close, personal look at how real the stories are in this book,” Reich said. “These men are true brothers in Christ whose lives have impacted me significantly. In ‘The Biggest Win,’ Joshua Cooley not only does an incredible job helping us learn from their examples, but he also uses the platform of sports to equip and inspire us in our Christian faith.”

Now with the New England Patriots, Jordan Matthews was a former teammate of some of those featured in the book and says “The Biggest Win” is a perfect fit for athletes who are struggling with how to balance sports and their walk with the Lord.

“Joshua does a wonderful job showing how your faith can be strengthened—not compromised—while you pursue your athletic endeavors,” Matthews said. “After reading this, you’ll realize that true victory can be yours long before you even start the game.”

In “The Biggest Win,” Cooley challenges readers to live out their faith and glorify God through sports, regardless of their athletic skill level.

“Since creation, God’s marvelous plan of redemption has been moving toward ultimate fulfillment,” Cooley said. “And amazingly, he allows athletic competition—enjoyed by billions of humans worldwide—to be one of many catalysts for spiritual growth. This book is a humble effort to examine this fascinating topic. The divinely inspired words of 1 Corinthians 10:31—‘whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God’—reveal that even something as fleeting as athletic competition falls under the sovereign lordship of our heavenly King. We owe him our heart’s allegiance at home, school, work, church … and yes, in sports. That’s what this book is about: pursuing God’s glory as we compete, recognizing the God-given lessons that athletics provides, and becoming more like Christ through the triumphs and challenges that sports presents.”

“The Biggest Win” combines biblical truths with practical direction on issues that every Christian faces, including dealing with adversity, competition, change, success, failure, and how to thrive by faith in a pressurized world. Encouraging male and female athletes in any sport, “The Biggest Win” guides them in finding their ultimate identity in Christ, not their athletic achievements, and assures them that their greatest prize is eternal life.

A percentage of the book sales from “The Biggest Win” will go to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, a nearly 65-year-old international sports ministry with a vision to see the world transformed by Jesus Christ through the influence of coaches and athletes.

Cooley is also the author or co-author of “The One Year Devotions with Jesus: 365 Devotions to Help You Know and Love the Savior,” “Heroes of the Bible Devotional: 90 Devotions to Help You Become a Hero of God!” and “The One Year Sports Devotions for Kids.” He also co-authored Nick Foles’ forthcoming memoir, “Believe It,” which is scheduled for release in late June.
