Repeal of Obamacare Will Restore True Focus of Medicine: The Patient

Citizens’ Council for Health Freedom: Too Much Focus on 20 Million Not Likely to Lose Coverage from Repeal and Not Enough on How the ACA Is Harming 320 Million Americans

ST. PAUL, Minn.—President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence have a laundry list of policy changes they committed to in their first 100 days in office.

Among them is to “repeal and replace” the Affordable Care Act, which has proven to be anything but affordable for many Americans and has damaged the health care industry as a whole.

Since the law’s enactment in 2010, Citizens’ Council for Health Freedom (CCHF, www.cchfreedom.org), a national health freedom and patient advocacy organization, has continually called for the repeal of Obamacare as it increased premiums for millions of American families, tied the hands of doctors and greatly compromised patient care.

Now, with repeal within reach, CCHF is encouraging lawmakers to return simplicity, affordability, health freedom and treatment choices to patients and doctors around the country—by sending health care back to the states.

“Health care is foremost about patients, not enrollees,” said Twila Brase, president and co-founder of CCHF. “The Affordable Care Act encourages doctors to skimp on patient care, follow standardized one-size-fits-all treatment protocols that don’t meet patients’ unique needs and focus on mind-numbing paperwork. The ACA forces doctors to spend their time clicking boxes and reporting statistics instead of looking at, listening to and caring for their patients.

“The greatest health care system in the world is being dismantled,” she continued, “while Obamacare supporters try to keep in place a law that produced the most unaffordable coverage in the world. Further lost in the discussion is how coverage does not equal care. Too often even the covered can’t find timely, personalized care.”

Brase, who shared “21 Principles for Health Freedom” with members of Congress while recently in Washington, D.C., also published “Ten Executive Actions President Trump Could Take,” and wrote an op-ed that was published by The Daily Caller (“Don’t Let the ’Uninsured 20 Million’ Statistic Fool You”)says there is too little focus on the harm being done to all 320 million Americans.

“During this repeal-and-replace process, many ask, ‘What about the 20 million people who got coverage?’” Brase said. “This is the wrong question. First, most will get coverage after repeal, and at a lower cost. But second, the right question is, ‘Should the entire American health care system and its world-renowned excellence be dismantled, access to care limited and costs made unaffordable to subsidize the coverage of a few million Americans?’ The answer is no.”

CCHF has launched The Wedge of Health Freedom (www.JointheWedge.com) to restore simplicity, affordability, and confidentiality to health care. Thus far, nearly 200 Wedge practices, where patients can find affordable, patient-centered care, are located in 44 states and can be found online.
