Social Justice-Driven and Politically Correct Views of Christmas Are Getting Out of Hand, Says Religion/Culture Expert, Speaker and Author

GREENSBORO, N.C.—An elementary school principal is on leave in Omaha, Nebraska, after announcing that Christmas symbols wouldn’t be welcome this year. Community members were outraged, especially at Jennifer Sinclair’s ban on Christmas trees, Santa and even candy canes, which, she said, were in the shape of a “J” for Jesus.

Is this a satire piece that appeared on a cheeky blog? No, it actually happened to the young students at Manchester Elementary School.

Religion and culture expert, national radio host and author Dr. Alex McFarland says the trend of similar outlandish efforts to squash Christmas to satisfy the politically correct agenda is getting out of hand. McFarland speaks to tens of thousands of young people every year and says adults’ ludicrous rationales are stealing the beauty and wonder of Christmas from our children.

“The ridiculous anti-Christmas arguments people are dreaming up have crossed a new line of absurd,” McFarland said. “The sham of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer’s story empowers bullies, body-shamers and sends multiple negative messages to children? The fact that we can’t hum ‘Baby, It’s Cold Outside’ or even hang a harmless candy cane on a classroom door? We aren’t doing our kids any favors by calling out everything that is wrong with Christmas traditions. We’re actually stealing their joy and forcing them to second-guess everything they believe to be fun and merry.

“This Christmas, let’s give everyone the gift of simplicity and stop adding a social justice warrior, politically correct angle to every story, song or special treat children currently enjoy,” he added. “The short-lived uniqueness and possible jokey charm of these foolish and silly arguments has worn very thin. Let America’s young people enjoy Christmas again—they have enough to worry about otherwise.”
