Samaritan Ministries’ Members Know Their Financial Shares Will Never Pay for Abortion

More Than a Quarter of a Million Samaritan Members Do Not Share in Needs for Unbiblical Practices But Instead Affirm Life

PEORIA, Ill.—Pro-life advocates estimate that about 60 million unborn babies have lost their lives since Roe v. Wade, the 1973 landmark Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion in America. But members of Samaritan Ministries International (samaritanministries.org), one of the leading health care sharing ministries in America, know they have not—nor will they ever—send financial shares to help pay for abortions.

For nearly 25 years, Samaritan Ministries has enabled more than a quarter of a million members to honor God through their health care, which also means Samaritan’s 80,000-plus member households do not dishonor God by funding abortion or other unbiblical practices.

“Samaritan Ministries staff and members love to affirm life and support growing families,” said Anthony Hopp, Samaritan’s vice president of external relations. “And the Word of God forms the basis for all we do. First, Psalm 139:13 says, ‘For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb’ (ESV). We believe those words whole-heartedly. And second, our ministry is built upon Galatians 6:2: ‘Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.’

“Millions of Americans can’t control where their insurance dollars go and don’t have a say if they are indirectly funding ungodly practices like abortion,” Hopp added. “But Samaritan members can be confident they will not be asked to send any of their monthly shares to help pay for anything that dishonors God.”

Samaritan members also appreciate that they never have to question if their monthly shares fund any other practice that would displease God.

“I love helping others with their needs, and I appreciate not having to help pay for a service I don’t agree with, such as abortion,” said Joan from Arkansas.

Luana from California loves that not only can she avoid network restrictions, referral requirements or pre-authorizations, but she can engage in health care in good conscience as a member of Samaritan Ministries.

“I’m also so glad that I’m not paying into an insurance organization that supports abortion or any unhealthy lifestyles,” she said. “So whether it’s an issue of conscience or superfluous red tape, I can be happily relieved!”

Adds Susan from Virginia, “I … love knowing that I am sharing my monthly share with people who share my values.”

John of Missouri said he and his family looked for a health care sharing ministry that would align better with their Christian values and would be economical.

“From the beginning, we liked what we read, saw and heard about Samaritan Ministries,” John said. “After praying, we decided to take a step of faith and try it out. It was the best decision we made in regards to our health care. Through the years, we have had three needs, and have had nearly $18,000 in shared expenses. We have seen all of the needs provided for that we have submitted and have been happy with how all of it worked.”

Brian and Scharlie of South Carolina say they are blessed to have enjoyed good health this year.

“We are thrilled and so thankful to be able to partner with likeminded believers and not have to support so many Christ-dishonoring practices,” they added.

John from California appreciates the way health care sharing through Samaritan Ministries upholds Biblical standards.

“Above all,” he said, “I am impressed that you are courageously upholding, and thereby preaching and teaching, the moral standards of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”

The more than 80,000 member households (260,000-plus individuals) of Samaritan Ministries say, overwhelmingly, that they are “happily uninsured” and plan to stay that way. They appreciate that Samaritan Ministries has provided a way for them to pray for and send monthly financial shares directly to their fellow members all year long and to bless them with encouraging personal notes and cards.

Each month, Samaritan’s growing Biblical community shares approximately $28 million in medical needs person to person, yet the monthly share has never exceeded $495 for a family of any size and is even less for two-person and single-person households. This direct-sharing approach also allows members to not only help fellow believers with their medical financial needs, but also connect monthly with prayer, personal notes and cards of encouragement.

Samaritan Ministries offers two membership levels, Samaritan Classic and Samaritan Basic. Samaritan Basic has a lower monthly share coupled with a higher initial unshared amount than Samaritan Classic. Monthly shares for Samaritan Basic start as low as $100 for one person, $200 for two people and $250 for a family of any size, depending on age. Some guidelines differ between Samaritan Basic and Samaritan Classic; contact Samaritan Ministries for details or visit this link.
