Samaritan Ministries Named a ‘Best Christian Workplace’ for 10th Consecutive Year

The 300+ Staff at Samaritan Ministries Help Nearly a Quarter of a Million Members Honor God With Their Health Care

PEORIA, Ill.—For the 10th consecutive year, Samaritan Ministries International (samaritanministries.org), one of the largest health care sharing ministries in America, has been certified as a “Best Christian Workplace” by the Best Christian Workplaces Institute (BCWI).

BCWI, a pioneer in equipping and inspiring Christian leaders to build flourishing organizational cultures in their ministries, recently recognized Samaritan Ministries and 86 other faith-based organizations as Certified Best Christian Workplaces based on confidential responses to surveys of their staff members.

The rapidly growing Samaritan Ministries team of more than 300, based in Peoria, Ill., has welcomed over 75,000 member households (246,000+ individuals).

Samaritan staff has the often uplifting and gratifying job of helping the more than 75,000 Samaritan member households honor God with their health care,” said Anthony Hopp, Samaritan’s vice president of external relations. “Our team has the privilege of being Christ’s hands and feet, assisting in the practice of Biblical community and bearing one another’s burdens, as Galatians 6:2 instructs. These remain as our core values and part of the unwavering mission of Samaritan, even as the health care landscape changes almost daily. We love being able to truly connect our brothers and sisters in Christ as they love and care for each other—and in this important task, we can bring glory to Him.”

Each month, Samaritan members pray and send notes, cards and monthly financial shares directly to other member families. In this way, Samaritan members share $25 million in medical needs each month through an effective, affordable and God-honoring ministry for Christian families.

BCWI President Al Lopus said the number of churches, parachurch ministries, Christian schools, higher education institutions and businesses that qualify for Certification has tripled since 2012. “The increase speaks to the growing trend of ministry organizations building a healthy-to-flourishing culture which, in turn, leads to organizational impact,” he said.

Certified status is based on the eight key benchmarks of BCWI’s “FLOURISH Model”—Fantastic teams, Life-giving work, Outstanding talent, Uplifting growth, Rewarding compensation, Inspirational leadership, Sustainable strategy and Healthy communication. Of the 150 organizations that completed BCWI’s survey, 58 percent were Certified. Developed in 2002, the survey has been completed by more than 300,000 employees from 925 organizations, churches and Christian-owned businesses in the U.S., Australia, Africa, Asia, Canada, Europe and Central America.

Categories of Best Christian Workplaces include Camps and Conference Centers, Christian-Owned Businesses, Christian Schools, Churches, Higher Education, Media, Parachurch & Missions, and Products & Services.

In late 2017, Samaritan Ministries added a second membership level, Samaritan Basic, which offers a lower monthly share than the original Samaritan Classic, coupled with a higher initial unshared amount, giving both current and future members another option for choosing what they believe is best for their families—and their budgets. Monthly shares for Samaritan Basic start as low as $100 for one person, $200 for two people and $250 for a family of any size, depending on age. Some guidelines differ between Samaritan Basic and Samaritan Classic; contact Samaritan Ministries for details or visit this link.
