Simple and direct common-sense solutions could make all the difference in today’s complicated world of health care.
At Samaritan Ministries International (samaritanministries.org), one of the leading health care sharing ministries in America, a common-sense approach has been at the core of its mission for 22 years.
“The simplicity of Samaritan’s options—as well as the simplicity of the biblical message that grounds the entire ministry and our more than 69,000 member households—remains the same,” said Anthony Hopp, Samaritan Ministries’ vice president for external relations. “This is especially true as health care becomes more complicated. Samaritan’s sharing and cost structure is straight-forward, and the lifting up through prayers and notes of encouragement our members send each other is the cornerstone of Biblical community. Samaritan has always aimed to connect believers, based on the simple idea of Christians helping Christians with their health care. That’s really the beauty of it.”
Today, Samaritan members share $23 million each month in medical needs, following the Bible’s teachings to “bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2 | ESV). Members of Samaritan also pray and include personal notes and cards of encouragement along with the financial shares they send directly to other Samaritan families each month. Currently, Samaritan members pay a monthly share of only $495 for a family of any size, while individuals pay $220 and couples pay $440.
“Month after month, our members tell us that receiving notes and cards from other members is the most meaningful aspect of being part of the Biblical community of a health care sharing ministry like Samaritan,” Hopp added. “Health care sharing offers more than just the monthly financial share we commit to. Certainly, health care sharing does save money, but more than that, health care sharing through Samaritan is about lifting up, encouraging and praying for our brothers and sisters in Christ, just as the Bible teaches. And that truly sets Samaritan apart.”
