With the American Health Care Act again in jeopardy—it’s a Republican version of Obamacare 2.0 anyway, says Twila Brase of Citizens’ Council for Health Freedom (CCHF, www.cchfreedom.org)—several senators are calling for full repeal rather than a replacement that still compromises Americans’ health freedom.
“Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) said, ‘We could repeal all of Obamacare … I just don’t buy the fact that we can’t do that.’ I agree,” Brase said. “Republicans should do what the Democrats did. They used their majority power to pass Obamacare. Republicans must use their majority power to repeal it. Republicans should not dither. They should not quibble over political repercussions. They must rip Obamacare out by the roots. If Obamacare is not repealed, the future of American freedom is dim.”
CCHF is noting that several other lawmakers are on board with full repeal as well.
REP. STEVE KING—IOWA: According to NPR, on the first day of this Congress, King introduced a bill to repeal the ACA in its entirety. “It’s my opinion that if we repealed Obamacare and did nothing, we’re still far better off. Almost everybody I know would be happier if Obamacare had never been passed and we hadn’t made any changes in health care. But what we’ve missed is the last seven years or so of an opportunity to make the prudent changes so that our system, our health insurance and our health care delivery system could have been improved during that period of time.”
SEN. JOHN CORNYN—TEXAS: According to The Hill, Cornyn said he and fellow senators are looking at their ability to repeal Obamacare’s essential health benefits. “I think we’re going to leave it up to consumers to decide what they want to buy and what they need.”
SEN. TED CRUZ—TEXAS: Politico has reported that Cruz wants to “go nuclear” in the Senate if necessary to repeal Obamacare. “We’re not getting eight Democrats on anything,” he said. “And so what I’ve been urging for the past several months is take everything in bucket three and everything in bucket two and put it in bucket one. That the only thing passing is reconciliation.” Sen Rand Paul (R-Ky.) is also on board.
REP. MO BROOKS—ALABAMA: Mo Brooks is championing a bill, according to Fox News, that would repeal Obamacare in just one sentence. The Obamacare Repeal Act states: “Effective as of Dec. 31, 2017, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is repealed, and the provisions of law amended or repealed by such Act are restored or revived as if such Act had not been enacted.”
“The language in a bill that would truly repeal the Affordable Care Act is simple and straight-forward,” Brase said. “Bills with this simple repeal language are already in existence and deserve to be considered or revisited. The only way to fix health care is actually getting back to a strong patient-doctor relationship in an affordable way. And the only thing Americans asked for was repeal. Now is the time.”
