‘The Biggest Win’ Author Joshua Cooley Also a Contributing Author to Nick Foles’ New Book ‘Believe It’

Cooley’s ‘Biggest Win’ Tells the Faith Stories of Six Super Bowl-Winners; Gives Fans a Unique Look Into the Lives of These Champion Players

PHILADELPHIA—Super Bowl-winning quarterback Nick Foles certainly has an amazing story to tell, and his journey in football and faith is detailed in Joshua Cooley’s new book, The Biggest Win, released by New Growth Press July 30.

Foles is telling his own story too, and Cooley is also a contributor for Foles’ new book called “Believe It: My Journey of Success, Failure, and Overcoming the Odds,” which Tyndale released yesterday.

When the Philadelphia Eagles’ starting QB Carson Wentz went down with a torn ACL in week 14 of the 2017 season, many fans—and commentators—assumed the Eagles’ season was over. Instead, Foles came off the bench and, against all odds, led the Eagles to their first Super Bowl victory in franchise history.

“Believe It” offers a behind-the-scenes look at Nick’s unlikely path to the Super Bowl, the obstacles that threatened to hold him back, his rediscovery of his love for the game and the faith that grounded him through it all. With Cooley’s contributions and a foreword from former Eagles offensive coordinator Frank Reich, readers will learn from the way Foles handled the trials and tribulations that made him into the man he is today.

Cooley first met Foles while writing a freelance magazine story about a close-knit group of six Christ-following players on the Eagles team. He discovered there was a much bigger story to tell, and embarked on the journey of writing “The Biggest Win.” In fact, the book was already in the works last summer, months before the Eagles’ victory in Super Bowl LII.

In “The Biggest Win,” Cooley tells the faith stories of Foles and Wentz, along with four other members of the 2017 Philadelphia Eagles team: Zach Ertz, Jordan Hicks, Chris Maragos and Trey Burton, who signed with the Chicago Bears this offseason.

“These guys weren’t perfect, nor did they claim to be,” Cooley said. “But I was immediately struck by their unquenchable hunger for Scripture and their commitment to genuine Christian discipleship, accountability, and obedience to Great Commission living. Rarely, if ever, have I spoken to a group of professional athletes so committed to pursuing biblical truth together. Since creation, God’s marvelous plan of redemption has been moving toward ultimate fulfillment. And amazingly, he allows athletic competition—enjoyed by billions of humans worldwide—to be one of many catalysts for spiritual growth.”

These six NFL players collectively wrote “The Biggest Win” foreword:

“We love football. We love what we do. But football is just a game. And one day we will retire from football. But becoming a follower of Jesus Christ means our identity doesn’t have to be in our latest performance on the field—our identity is in Christ. Following Jesus means that our purpose is larger than being the best athlete. We have a whole new life of meaning, purpose, and service that will last longer than our football careers and have more impact in the world than anything we could accomplish on the field.”

Released by New Growth Press July 30, “The Biggest Win” gives athletes and sports fans a unique look into the lives and faith of these champion players. Through the ups and downs of the game of football, Cooley shows how these high-profile athletes remain committed to God’s Word, genuine Christian discipleship and sharing their faith.

“The Biggest Win” also combines biblical truths with practical direction on issues that every Christian faces, including dealing with adversity, competition, change, success, failure and how to thrive by faith in a pressurized world. Encouraging male and female athletes in any sport, “The Biggest Win” guides them in finding their ultimate identity in Christ, not their athletic achievements.

A percentage of the book sales from “The Biggest Win” will go to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the international sports ministry with a vision to see the world transformed by Jesus Christ through the influence of coaches and athletes.

Cooley is also the author or co-author of “The One Year Devotions with Jesus: 365 Devotions to Help You Know and Love the Savior,” “Heroes of the Bible Devotional: 90 Devotions to Help You Become a Hero of God!” and “The One Year Sports Devotions for Kids.”
