The Final Countdown
Neither Markets Nor Polls Can Predict Election Results; Every Theory Is Off the Table, Says Financial Expert and National Host Dan Celia
PHILADELPHIA, Pa.—Today’s election will go down as one of the most unique in history, and if there’s one thing that can be predicted, it’s that the next 24 hours will be anything but predictable.
For months, financial expert and nationally syndicated host Dan Celia, leader of Financial Issues Stewardship Ministries (FISM, www.financialissues.org), has been watching the election closely, mostly from an economic and jobs-related perspective, informing the millions of listeners to his “Financial Issues” program how the candidates’ plans will impact their lives.
“Do we want more debt, more spending, higher taxes, decimation of the middle class, the demonizing of profits, heavier regulation, and the crushing of small business, and do we believe all that spending will lead us and future generations into prosperity?” asked Celia on a recent installment of “Financial Issues,” which is heard on more than 600 stations nationwide and reaches millions more through television. “Do we believe the kind of ideology we’ve seen for the past eight years will lead to prosperity? Let’s not get caught up in the scenarios that could happen, regardless of who the next president is. Let’s focus on who, or which administration, will lead us out of this current negative state of the economy—or who will drive us deeper into it for political power and political gain.”
While some use polls to predict who will come out on top, and others look at market fluctuations as a crystal ball, Celia adds that, in this election, every theory is off the table.
“This is an election like none other,” he said. “We live in such a different time, so everything people predict goes right out the window. Anything can happen in this election.”
Celia takes calls from around the country—his program airs on many stations in battleground states—and he has talked to Americans who say they have not voted in the past three presidential elections but are voting today. And, for many, jobs and the economy are central election issues.
“Hillary Clinton says that she will add thousands of jobs to the economy,” Celia said on the show. “It is not the government’s job to create jobs. She might think that’s the case, but it’s not their job. Government cannot create jobs—unless it’s a government job by spending more money—but their real job is to create an environment in which private free-market companies can thrive and create jobs. We’ve spent eight years demonizing company profits, as if ‘profit’ is a dirty word here in America. Yet profit is the very thing that creates larger companies, better companies and more jobs.”
“Financial Issues” recently began streaming on its own YouTube Channel, Financial Issues with Dan Celia. The ministry also recently introduced the new Financial Issues app; learn more here. Besides more than 600 radio stations, “Financial Issues” is seen on the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) television network, reaching 45 million households, BizTV, which reaches millions more in major markets, and Dove-TV in the Pacific Northwest. He speaks at conferences, town hall meetings and investment conferences around the country, is the author of six books and publishes a weekly newsletter.
