The Jig is Up: Public School Teacher’s Tweets Reveal Hidden Political Agenda

Moms for America’s Kimberly Fletcher: “When the Teacher is Worried about Parents Watching Online Class Discussions, it’s Time for Parents to be Concerned…”

August 17, 2020

DAYTON, OHIO — A Philadelphia English teacher ignited a firestorm on Twitter when he publicly validated what parents have long suspected but may not have been able to prove: that valuable public school classroom time is being used to advance a far-left political agenda, undermining parents’ values against their wishes.

Moms for America® (, a national movement calling on mothers to restore values such as motherhood, marriage, womanhood and patriotism, has long realized that American mothers too often face a dichotomy between their family’s core values and those being taught in public school. But seldom has the proof been so evident.

Matthew R. Kay, a founding teacher at Center City Philadelphia’s Science Leadership Academy, recently publicly posted his concerns on Twitter* (screenshot below) that parents were going to be watching – and interfering in – his class discussions held online. And he’s not referring to his English class discussions: “So, this fall, virtual class discussions will have many potential spectators — parents, siblings, etc. — in the same room. We’ll never be quite sure who is overhearing the discourse.  What does this do for our equity/inclusion work?”

Kimberly Fletcher, founder and president of Moms for America® and a mother of eight, says,When the teacher is worried about parents watching online class discussions, it’s time for parents to be concerned…”

As his Twitter commentary continues, Kay speaks of “encouraging vulnerability” in his students, saying, “I am most intrigued by the damage that ‘helicopter/snowplow’ parents can do in honest conversations about gender/sexuality …”

Fletcher’s response: “It is shocking for parents to learn of a teacher engaging in talks about sexuality and gender issues with our children, especially when ‘encouraging’ their ‘vulnerability’ – all without the parents’ knowledge or consent.

Kay continues in his Tweet: “‘…While ‘Conservative’ parents are my chief concern— I know that the damage can come from the left too. If we are engaged in the messy work of destabilizing a kids (sic) racism or homophobia or transphobia — how much do we want their classmates’ parents piling on?”

Fletcher responded, “Although it is horrible to hear of a trusted teacher trying to ‘destabilize’ a family’s conservative views, couching them in derogatory terms, the bright side is that these Tweets were made public: this teacher has confirmed and brought to light the tactics used by the left to indoctrinate our children.”

She continued, “It has been said that ‘Sunlight is the best disinfectant.’ Now that the truth is laid bare, we can definitively act to protect our children from this indoctrination, so they don’t get confused about the truth of our beliefs.

Parents need to evaluate—carefully—who will be teaching our children, and what they plan to teach. Is there a way to be sure? Is it possible to vet your child’s teachers to be sure they have the same moral values and won’t try to undermine yours?

If the neighborhood public school cannot guarantee that, perhaps this will spur parents to seek other options.

“As one homeschooling mother told me, ‘The only way to ascertain what is being taught to my children is to teach them myself…’” says Fletcher. “We can add this to the growing list of reasons for parents to choose homeschooling as their preferred method of educating their children.”

This also might help to explain the U.S. decline in educational achievement. After all, time spent discussing sexuality when you should be learning correct spelling and punctuation raises a red flag for Fletcher, who asks, “In addition to our moral values, how much of our children’s education is being sacrificed on the altar of the left’s political agenda?”

The freedom and safety of our republic depends on whether America’s millions of moms will choose to make their voices heard. Moms for America® encourages mothers to sign the Declaration of Mothers, which includes statements about human rights, the role of a mother in the home and the education of her children.
