The Tide® Global Gospel Ministry Reaches Remote Village in Nepal on 11 FM Radio Stations

Nepal Has One of the Fastest-Growing Christian Populations in the World

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.—On the population-rich continent of Asia, Christianity is growing, but numbers of those who believe in Jesus Christ are still low. In fact, Christians make up less than two percent of the population in Nepal.

But The Tide® ( global radio ministry is sharing the Gospel on 11 FM stations there, helping many people hear about Jesus for the first time.

“Okahdunga is a remote eastern hilly region, from where The Tide radio program is broadcast,” said The Tide director Don Shenk. “It has been reported that of all the Christian radio programs on these 11 FM radio stations, people like The Tide program the best! Not only are prisoners hearing The Tide programs and accepting Christ as their Savior, but a Chief District Officer also regularly listens. People who listen to The Tide program call the radio stations to say they appreciate hearing the Gospel in their own language, and it’s rare for Nepali people to make this effort, as they have so many burdens.”

The Tide ministry is thankful that God continues to plant His words in the hearts of thousands of people in Nepal. In fact, NPR reported last year that according to World Christian Database, Nepal has one of the fastest-growing Christian populations in the world. But persecution watchdog Open Doors USA, however, shares that Nepal shows “increasing signs of becoming a more Hindu nationalistic nation.”

Currently, The Tide ministry works to reach people in seven countries on three continents through 24 heart languages. Nearly a quarter of the world’s population lives within the current range of The Tide radio programming, and with nearly 7,000 languages spoken in the world today, the opportunities are tremendous.

Later this year, The Tide ministry will offer programming in its 25th heart language—Isaan, spoken by 19 million people in Thailand. That initiative will allow Thailand to join multiple regions of Zimbabwe, India, Nigeria, Nepal, Bhutan, Albania and Kosovo, where The Tide ministry is already active in broadcasting Gospel radio programming.
