The Tide® Global Radio Ministry’s Mission Is As Strong Today as It Was 73 Years Ago in 1946
More Than Seven Decades Later, The Tide Ministry Continues to ‘Creatively Share the Good News of the Gospel Through Media’
LANCASTER, PA.—The mark of a solid, long-lasting and impactful organization is a steadfast commitment to the mission.
For The Tide® (www.thetide.org) global radio ministry, the commitment to its mission began in 1946 when the first radio program was broadcast by founder Charlie Byers 73 years ago this month. Today, The Tide ministry’s mission remains: To creatively share the Good News of the Gospel through media.
“Over the years, the media may have changed but the mission has not,” said The Tide Director Don Shenk. “While we once focused on distributing traditional radios for entire villages to share, those avenues have now expanded to include solar-powered media players, online live-streaming and platforms such as WhatsApp. God has guided The Tide ministry in remaining true to completing His important work to tell as many people as possible about His Son, Jesus Christ. But there is so much more to do—with 2,200 unreached people groups and more than 7,000 languages spoken worldwide! And as long as there are unreached people groups and languages without Gospel radio programming, The Tide ministry’s work will continue.”
The Tide ministry currently offers audio programming in 25 heart languages spoken by millions of people in multiple regions of Albania, Bhutan, India, Kosovo, Nepal, Nigeria, Thailand and Zimbabwe, making it possible for multiple people groups to hear the Gospel in the languages they were born to speak.
