The Tide® Ministry Helping Children Learn About Global Gospel Radio Programs Through VBS Project
Program Teaches Children How The Tide Ministry is Telling People in Other Countries About Jesus and Encourages Them to Raise Support So More Radio Listeners Can Hear the Gospel in Their Own Language
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.—Spring is officially here, which means summer is right around the corner.
To prepare for the summer Vacation Bible School season, The Tide® (www.thetide.org) global radio ministry is offering churches a VBS missions project to introduce children to the concept of sharing the Gospel globally and help them experience the joy of giving.
“Romans 10:17 tells us that ‘Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the Word of Christ,’” said The Tide Director Don Shenk. “This verse points out the fact that people are not saved when we preach salvation but are saved when they respond in faith to what they hear about Jesus Christ. The Gospel must be shared in a way that people can hear it and embrace Jesus as their Lord and Savior. And children can be extremely open to sharing with others about their love for Jesus.”
Since its inception in 1946, The Tide ministry has maintained a strong focus on broadcasting the Good News of Jesus Christ. Today, the primary focus is reaching into other regions of the world where many people still need to hear about Jesus.
“The Tide ministry partners in each country help listeners become committed disciples of Christ by inviting them to seekers conferences, distributing Bibles and Christian literature in their own language, enrolling them in correspondence courses, and providing radios in areas where people are too poor to purchase their own,” Shenk added.
The Tide ministry’s VBS project provides an avenue for children to learn about the various ways the ministry is telling people in other countries about Jesus, and to participate in The Tide mission by raising support to help tell people about Jesus in their own language. VBS directors and leaders can choose a specific country, language or aspect of ministry to support through the project, or any combination based on their VBS goals.
Children learning about The Tide ministry through the VBS program will be helping listeners like Mahije, a radio listener in Albania.
“I have been listening to the radio for a few years now and I can say that it fills my heart with a kind of peace I cannot explain,” she said. The program ‘Sipas Fjales’ has helped me in many difficult moments at home, when I was so tired and depressed and ready to give up. Christian faith is so different. Though I’m almost a prisoner in my own house, I feel more free than ever since I invited Jesus in my heart. Thank you for helping my soul heal and show me there is hope and a better future for me.”
To help churches have successful and fulfilling VBS projects for children, The Tide ministry provides a ready-to-go kit that includes a world map, radio poster, 3D-printed offering box in the shape of a radio bank and stickers. More options are available to make the VBS project exciting and fun for children, such as information cards on various people groups, stories of lives that have been touched through The Tide radio ministry, short video clips and suggested scripture lessons. The Tide ministry records and broadcasts Gospel programming in eight countries on three continents in 25 heart languages spoken by millions of people in multiple regions of Albania, Bhutan, India, Kosovo, Nepal, Nigeria, Thailand and Zimbabwe. With more than 7,000 languages spoken worldwide and more than 2,000 people groups that have been unreached by the Good News of Jesus, the opportunities are tremendous, but The Tide helps make it possible for multiple people groups to hear the Gospel in the languages they were born to speak.
