The Tide® Ministry Teaches New Believers in India That God ‘Knows Them by Name’

Listeners to The Tide Radio Programs Worldwide Must Sacrifice Much to Know Jesus and Find New Life in Him

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.—One of the simplest lessons The Tide® (www.thetide.org) global gospel radio ministry can share with new and potential believers is that God knows each of them by name and that they can count on His truth daily.

One of the verses local Tide partner pastors in countries around the world teach is Isaiah 43:1, where they Lord says, “I have called you by name; you are mine.”

The Tide ministry has worked to reach lost souls for Christ worldwide for the past 70 years. And for nearly four decades, The Tide ministry has had a presence in India, where gospel programming in the languages people were born to speak tell about the saving grace and boundless love of Jesus Christ.

Those who want to learn more about Christ write to The Tide ministry to request information and literature. In turn, they receive details about local seeker events where they can find out more about Jesus and delve deeper into the Bible.

But many of these new believers, especially in India, face significant hardships when they turn from their old ways and begin to follow Jesus. According to a recent report in The Christian Post, new Christians in India endure immense pressure from radicals who beat them for refusing to worship Hindu gods. Open Doors USA has been sharing stories of those persecuted for their faith in India, where converting people to Christianity is illegal in five states.

“It takes courage to seek the truth in a society where truth does not prevail,” said The Tide Director Don Shenk. “It may cost a new believer their family. It may cost them their job. It may even cost them their life. These people are seeking the truth—God’s truth. Everyone who asks receives. God promised us in Luke 11:10 that all who seek Him will find Him. We must pray for our brothers and sisters who face hardship, simply for believing in Jesus, for God rewards those who earnestly seek Him.”

Since 1978, The Tide’s ministry in India has expanded to include discipleship activities such as literature distribution, Bible correspondence courses and a radio distribution project called “Radios for India.” This combination of ministry elements has proven to be extremely effective in changing lives throughout India and planting churches where believers can be nurtured in their faith and through which whole communities can be drawn into the Kingdom of God.

Currently, The Tide ministry reaches people in seven countries on three continents through radio programming in 24 heart languages. Nearly a quarter of the world’s population lives within the current range of The Tide radio programming, and with nearly 7,000 languages spoken in the world today, the opportunities are tremendous for people to hear the Word of God.

Later this year, The Tide ministry will offer programming in its 25th heart language—Isaan, spoken by 19 million people in Thailand. That initiative will allow Thailand to join multiple regions of Zimbabwe, India, Nigeria, Nepal, Bhutan, Albania and Kosovo, where The Tide ministry is already active in broadcasting Gospel radio programming.
