The Tide® ministry Director Don Shenk: ‘It’s often these unconventional avenues that reap the biggest reward’

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — The death of Thai superstar — and devoted Christian — Tangmo had a surprising supernatural effect on communities around the world. As millions tuned in to the livestream of her memorial service, they were surprised to hear the Gospel message presented throughout the three-day memorial. The result of the livestream is clear — more and more Thai people began searching for more information about Christianity than ever before, with one viewer reporting after the service, “I paid attention to everything said and was most impressed by the message that Christians do not fear death. I learned that God loves everyone, and I decided that I wanted to know him. After only a few lessons, I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior and I wanted to be baptized.”
The Tide® (www.thetide.org) ministry, a global outreach that uses radio broadcasts to spread the Gospel in native languages all around the world, has been sharing the Gospel in Thailand since 2015. With only 2% of the population identified as Christian, any method to share the Good News to the people who have not heard makes a huge difference.
“Our goal is to make an eternal impact on the communities in the region,” stated Don Shenk, director of The Tide® ministry. “No matter the method of reaching the lost — be it a radio broadcast or a livestreamed memorial service — we are grateful that thousands are hearing the Good News and many are making decisions to accept Christ as their Lord and Savior. It’s often these unconventional avenues that reap the biggest reward.”
One method The Tide® ministry utilizes to reach people in the area is through house calls. By making the concerted effort to connect with those who are interested to learn more about Gospel, The Tide® ministry has seen remarkable responses. One couple heard the Gospel over the radio, and after several meetings with other believers, they gave their lives to Christ. They began going to their family and sharing the Gospel, leading several more to know the Lord and getting baptized, and recently joined a group of emerging Christian leaders on fire for the Gospel — all within a year and a half!
“Every new believer has the potential to share the Gospel with more and more people in the future,” Shenk said. “It’s so encouraging to hear how the Gospel is spreading throughout the country by word of mouth, and we look forward to the day when every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Christ is Lord.”
