The Tide® ministry Director Don Shenk: ‘We are so grateful that the Lord has allowed us to spread the Gospel through the radio in these regions that don’t yet know of His love’

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.— The most widespread religion in Thailand is Buddhism. Theravada Buddhism, the oldest surviving branch of Buddhism, is especially strong among the Isaan people of northeastern Thailand, where less than 2% of the population is Christian. Despite a culture rooted in Buddhism, Christianity is continuing to spread, partly through the work of The Tide® (www.thetide.org) ministry, a global outreach that uses radio broadcasts to spread the Gospel in native languages all around the world.

“In Thailand, many people either haven’t heard of Christ or are not really sure who He is and what He has done for them,” stated Don Shenk, director of The Tide® ministry. “We are so grateful that the Lord has opened the door for us to share the Gospel through broadcast media in these regions that don’t yet know of His love.”

The Tide® ministry is working with a ministry partner in Thailand to share God’s Word among the Isaan people. Currently, The Tide® ministry is airing a 50-minute daily broadcast, as well as a 1-minute promo spot that airs hourly on several different radio stations, in the Isaan language, which is spoken by 19 million people in Thailand. The Tide® ministry partners also started a new series called “Joy at Work,” interviewing believers at their workplaces to talk about the integration of faith and work. Originally designed to be a series of videos, the team is releasing the series on the air to reach even more people with these powerful stories.

The Tide® ministry is also building partnerships with other Christian ministries in the area, such as Christlike.co, a conglomeration of high quality and reliable Christian resources that remain true to biblical teachings.

“These types of programs and partnerships display the wide variety of methods our team is utilizing on the ground in Thailand,” Shenk said. “By utilizing different techniques to share the Gospel, we are reaching even more people in new and exciting ways to show them the hope of Christ. As we continue to move forward with these projects, we pray that God will direct us to the most effective methods of making these programs publicly available to Isaan listeners.”
