When We Repeatedly Push God from Our Lives, the Consequences Are Very Real

Dr. Alex McFarland: Shunning God Manifests Itself in Families, Churches, Schools, Government, Marriage and Even Gender

CHARLOTTE, N.C.Fifty-five years ago, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that prayer in schools violated the First Amendment because it represented establishment of religion. While few would blame the recent violence, family breakdown and youth turmoil on the Supreme Court, religion, culture and worldview expert Dr. Alex McFarland (www.AlexMcFarland.com) wonders how different our nation might be if God was not continually pushed out of society.

“When we see headlines about a tragic shooting in a small Christian church, a terrorist rampage on a New York City sidewalk or a murderous plot on unsuspecting music fans in Las Vegas, we can’t help but imagine if our world would be as violent and frightening if we didn’t push God out of our lives,” McFarland said. “Over and over, we say that we don’t need God in our schools or on football fields, we don’t want to see messages of Christmas on billboards and some certainly don’t want Judeo-Christian values in our laws. But when we repeatedly push God away, there is no doubt the consequences will come to light in a very real and tangible way.

“Shunning God in our culture manifests itself in many ways—in our families, churches, schools, government, how we define marriage, even how we view God’s design for gender,” McFarland continued. “If there was ever a time for revival in our nation, it is now. How many more signs do we need to be persuaded that it’s time to turn back to God so He may heal our land?”

McFarland, who also serves as Director for Christian Worldview and Apologetics at the Christian Worldview Center of North Greenville University in Greenville, S.C., is the author of 20 books, including his newest, “Stand Strong in Your Faith,” co-authored with Jason Jimenez, which provides Christians with insight and encouragement to keep the faith during the toughest times of life, as well as “Abandoned Faith: Why Millennials Are Walking Away and How You Can Lead Them Home,” also co-authored with Jimenez, which explores why millennials are leaving the church.
