KANSAS CITY, Mo.—Some sports stories can unfortunately take on a negative focus, as headlines pinpoint matters such as locker room unrest, player indiscretions or holdouts on salaries.
But the national and international story of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes’ (FCA, www.fca.org) Fields of Faith is laser-focused on the positive—that God is good all the time and that He is raising up a young generation to see the world transformed by His Son, Jesus Christ.
For FCA’s 16th annual Fields of Faith—student-led and student-driven gatherings across the country and around the world that are centered on encouraging attendees to pray, read their Bible and commit their lives to Christ.
Last year, nearly a quarter of a million students, coaches, parents and community members gathered on more than 500 athletic fields nationwide to bring glory to Jesus Christ rather than attention to themselves. Fields of Faith events also give hope in a world where students are faced with many challenges, such as hopelessness, loneliness, depression, suicide, drugs, alcohol and more.
“In a world where bad news seems to be the norm, we’re happy to share the great news that lives are being changed through Fellowship of Christian Athletes’ Fields of Faith,” said FCA Executive Director of Ministry Advancement Jeff Martin. “From the student leaders who take on the responsibility to bring Fields of Faith to their communities to the skeptical or hurting teen who might be attending for the first time, we see time and again that Fields of Faith motivates, energizes, rejuvenates and unites. Jesus takes hold of lives right there on the athletic fields, and we are continually amazed at what He does each year in young peoples’ lives.”
Originated in 2004 by Martin, Fields of Faith is a peer-to-peer event that inspires students to refuel their faith and get back to the basics of reading God’s Word through worship and personal testimonies.
Said Micah, a past attendee: “Fields of Faith was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever been to. So many people were all able to worship God, at our school, in front of everyone. This is a wonderful event that all states and schools should try to start.”
“God is up to something HUGE here as the students are searching and hungry for the truth,” added Suzanne. “There is no limit to what God wants to do in the lives of HIS students, if we only allow Him to.”
And Zach remembers his powerful Fields of Faith involvement. “We totally rocked Fields of Faith!! It was such an amazing experience to see so many teens there, so much more than I expected! Most of them were really into the worship and what we had to say with the testimonies and scriptures! God is AWESOME!”
