CHATTANOOGA, Tenn — Men today are just as concerned about juggling work and family responsibilities as women. Studies suggest that 50% of fathers say it’s difficult for them to balance work and family life. And, many people, especially those in high-paid professional jobs and working 50 hours or more each week, are leaving precious little time for their families.
“If we are giving the least time to those we value most, perhaps this is a wake-up call to slow down, to cultivate biblical contentment and to spend more time at home,” says Christian Business Men’s Connection (CBMC) Vice President, Development, Marketing and Communications, Joe Beckler. “CBMC has a profound impact on men in this situation; it helps men on the journey to connect deeper with Christ in their personal as well as their business lives, helping them balance faith, family and career through the practical application of godly principles,” says Beckler. “Now more than ever it is vitally important to equip men with the power and positive influence religion can have on their marriage and professional lives. For men in the workforce, it is important to prioritize faith and family in order to have a healthy work/life balance and ensure that faith stays prominent in their lives.”
There are so many benefits to men spending more time with their families. This includes a better relationship with their kids and more time for their health. Men are trying to show up well at work, be good husbands and fathers, stay in touch with their older parents and extended family, and serve in their churches and communities. But sometimes these important priorities overlap and seem to conflict, causing stress in even the most caring hearts.
“Intimacy with the Almighty begins with creating space for simplicity in one’s life,” says Beckler. “It is essential for men to understand where ‘busy’ is stealing from their lives, and how can they start to take some of that time and energy back. A sustainable work/family balance suggests that we bias our opportunity costs in favor of the priorities that matter most, especially our families.”
CBMC’s resources offer help in this area. CBMC values men being actively engaged in their families, work and communities by providing a network of teams that equip and train them to be on a mission, with a purpose. CBMC’s blog, “Taking on the struggle to eliminate ‘busy’ in our lives,” encourages men to reflect upon where being “busy” is taking away from their lives, and how they can start to take their busy time and energy back in order to focus on simplicity and make room for God to come into their lives.
One resource CBMC offers that equips men to become godly husbands is a free digital discipleship program, Operation Timothy. Operation Timothy is a one-on-one mentoring opportunity whereby two people come together to study God’s word, pray, and then apply it to their personal lives. Through CBMC being set apart as a unique marketplace ministry through relational one-on-one discipleship, men are investing in other men, praying for each other, and intentionally engaging their lives to build spiritual reproducers, enabling them to live out their faith in all aspects of their lives.
