Trail Life USA launches new book series designed to help boys develop a daily habit of reading Scripture

An Adventurous Guy’s Artful Guide to Wisdom: The Fear of the Lord’ connects young men with the timeless truths of Proverbs

GREENVILLE, S.C. Trail Life USA (TrailLifeUSA.com) is celebrating the recent launch of An Adventurous Guy’s Artful Guide to Wisdom: The Fear of the Lord,” the first in a brand-new book series for boys. Trail Life CEO Mark Hancock designed the book to encourage young men to read, reflect on and retain God’s word.

“As Christians, our ideals come from the Bible,” Hancock said. “That’s why faith is woven throughout Trail Life’s core program — and why we’ve developed supplemental materials to help boys grow in their understanding of God.”

Indeed, woven throughout each Trail Life Troop activity are timeless principles of growth and life-change drawn from the pages of scripture. As the largest Christ-centered, boy-focused scout-type organization in the country, Trail Life is committed to fostering the next generation of godly men and responsible husbands, fathers and citizens.

According to Hancock, the book series is a natural extension of a core Trail Life principle: For boys to thrive, they need to be guided by the steadfast moral compass provided by the principles of Scripture.

“Boys of all ages need direction in today’s dark culture,” shared Hancock. “The world shouts at them from all directions, trying to lure them away from the path of righteousness. Because of this, it’s easy for boys to grow confused and frustrated as secular philosophies lead them into treacherous territory. But by relying on the truths of the Bible, young men can confidently hike forward in the right direction.”

Built on the profound wisdom found in the book of Proverbs, “An Adventurous Guy’s Artful Guide to Wisdom: The Fear of the Lord” invites young men to engage with God’s word. Each day, after reading a chapter of Proverbs, a boy is rewarded with a puzzle piece graphic that fits into a blank puzzle. Upon completing the month-long reading, the completed puzzle displays an image that complements the book’s theme. If a boy misses a day of reading, he’s instructed to wait for a day of grace to catch up. Ultimately, the book series aims to help young men develop a daily discipline of reading the Bible.

In a culture where morals seem untethered from any defined principles, the book is both timely and sorely needed.

Hancock remarked, “Until recently, generations of Americans found these uncompromising principles in Scripture. However, the generational norms that boys could always count on are eroding as the majority in America no longer believe that God is the center of truth. The truth presented in Scripture is being undermined at every turn in our schools and in the media.

“The result of this is that boys are ungrounded and searching for the truth to guide them. Boys need an established, unmoving moral foundation in order to thrive — where good behavior is encouraged and bad behavior discouraged.”

Critical to this foundation is a rock-solid faith in Christ. And what leads to lifelong faith for children? According to the apostle Paul, a Scripture-saturated, Bible-based upbringing of engaged faith shapes the beliefs of children. As Paul instructs Timothy, “Continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it, and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings” (2 Timothy 3:14-15).

“Shining for Jesus isn’t easy,” concluded Hancock. “But by training our sons to love God and obey His Word, they can stand against the darkness and point their friends to the ultimate Light of the world.”
