Christian Business Men’s Connection offers spiritual solution to help men become effective disciple-makers
CBMC equips men to strengthen their relationship with Jesus, to better understand how His word can guide them through mental health struggles
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn — Statistically, even though one in 10 men experiences depression or anxiety, less than half will receive treatment, and more than four times as many men as women die by suicide every year. Throughout Mental Health Awareness Month and beyond, Christian Business Men’s Connection (CBMC) is encouraging men to prioritize mental health by managing workplace stress, setting healthy boundaries and finding strength through faith in Jesus by becoming effective disciple-makers.
CBMC offers advice to business leaders on how to avoid stress in the workplace. According to one prominent research agency’s “State of the Workplace 2023” survey, 44% of global employees experienced daily workplace stress. Causes of workplace stress can be found at every turn, and continual global unrest, due to many causes, inevitably overflows into the workplace.
“With a bit of effort, executives and leaders can strive to create and maintain environments that help to reduce stress and build healthier work atmospheres,” says CBMC Vice President, Development, Marketing and Communications, Joe Beckler. “For business leaders, setting healthy work boundaries for their employees can help them (the leader and employee) relieve unhealthy stress that may come from the workplace.”
“Our teams need healthy work boundaries, including time for rest and restoration. As Hebrews 4:10 points out, ‘For anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from His.‘”
CBMC’s Spiritual Reproducer program offers a solution. Men can help their peers grow in their relationship with Christ and build meaningful discipleship relationships.
“Through building these relationships, Spiritual Reproducers can be a guiding light to help men understand how God can guide them through everyday life, and learn the importance and the why of discipling other men,” says Beckler.
Through the Spiritual Reproducer program, men will participate inBecoming a Spiritual Reproducer (BSR) — CBMC’s comprehensive training series designed to empower men to become effective disciple-makers. This training takes men through seven engaging sessions where they’ll gain the knowledge, skills and confidence to invest in others and help them grow in their relationship with Christ. BSR combines Biblical principles with practical strategies, providing a roadmap for meaningful discipleship relationships.
“As workplace ‘shepherds,’ we need to be sensitive to the challenges facing our work teammates and be caring and compassionate,” says Beckler. “We are responsible not only for the productivity of our employees and coworkers, but also for doing whatever we can to promote their well-being. If we see someone who seems troubled or struggling, it might be appropriate to set aside a few moments with them and ask, ‘How are you doing?’ and ‘How can I help you?’ What better way of demonstrating the love and presence of Christ in the workplace than to reach out to someone who is obviously hurting and under great stress?”
