The Tide® furthers its vision for every person in the Balkan region to hear the Gospel
Through The Tide’s growing ministry in the Balkan region, many lives have been changed through the power of Christ’s Word
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — In spite of political setbacks, The Tide® (www.thetide.org) ministry, a global Gospel broadcast ministry located on three continents and in 30 languages, works to answer the call to share the truth of the Gospel with the people throughout the Balkan region.
“The Balkan region, Europe’s easternmost southern peninsula, which includes a vast variety of ethnicities and people groups, is rife with conflict,” reports The Tide’s Executive Director, Don Shenk. “And yet, despite the political instability and hostility toward the Gospel, The Tide is still finding ways to move forward to share God’s healing Word to Christians and bring them closer to Christ in the Balkan region and beyond.”
In the Balkan region, The Tide ministry is proud to partner with Media 7 Balkan, the largest Christian radio network in the area, reaching over 7 million people with the Gospel through eight FM radio stations broadcasting in Albania, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Greece.
Rather than broadcasting translations of English programs, The Tide ministry typically works with partners and with local ministers to produce radio programs to share the Gospel in their language and in the context of their culture. These local ministry partners are the “boots on the ground” to provide listener care and coordinate discipleship and leadership training activities.
The goal of this partnership is to establish indigenous Christian television channels and radio stations in Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and Montenegro. These channels air personal testimonials from local believers to encourage fellow Christians while inspiring interested viewers to learn more about the transformative power of the Gospel.
According to The Tide’s ministry partner in the Balkan region, The Tide has created new Serbian content:
- “Balkan TV project is progressing, but slower than first planned, due to political instability in Serbia and Bosnia, as well as a very hostile environment to the Gospel. We are streaming radio in Serbian 24/7 and are posting the videos on all of our social media platforms. The comments of the listeners are from the online broadcast and social media, or those who contacted us on the phone to get some of our booklets. We hope to make more progress this summer in Bosnia.”
- “I’m very thankful for The Tide going with us in this journey of faith to start the first Christian radio stations and TV channels in Serbia, Bosnia, and later in Croatia. These Salvation stories are very important for the Body of Christ in these countries and will be broadcast for decades.”
- “In the Macedonian station, the threats are continuing, and there were attempts to damage our tower with fire, but the staff was able to save everything, and we did not have an interruption of the broadcast. Please continue to keep the station in your prayers.”
“Through The Tide’s growing ministry in the Balkan region, we have seen many lives changed through the power of Christ’s Word,” says Shenk. “Following are testimonies of changed lives from the Balkan TV program, which tell the powerful story of changed lives and the power of Christ’s word.”
- “Thank you for these powerful stories of new life in Christ. I have enjoyed every single story, and I have shared them with my family and friends. They are so beautiful because everyone is so honest and real. These testimonies are so powerful and important for our country, which is suffocated by Serbian/Russian Orthodoxy that operates more like a political party than a religious organization. We were raised to be religious and follow the Holy days, but were never taught how to personally know God. I think these stories you are producing will bring many people to Jesus, to a true and fulfilling relationship with the only God worthy to be worshiped. Thank you. Such inspiring work! I’m praying for a huge harvest.”
- “I want to thank you for the My Story (Moja Prica) program. I have been very much encouraged by these powerful stories of redemption. I share them often with my friends and family. I have been especially blessed by Kristijan’s story. Like him, I grew up with a mother involved in witchcraft and astrology. I grew up following her in her practices and those memories persecute me to this day. Though I have experienced God’s deliverance, I struggle with all those memories. Listening to Kristijan, I asked the Lord to free me forever and to guide my steps, so I walk in faithfulness to Him alone. I prayed that the Lord would protect me and that I would only worship Him. I prayed for my family as well to never worship any other God. Thank you for these powerful testimonies.”
From its humble origins in 1946 as a local Gospel radio broadcast in Chambersburg, PA, The Tide® ministry has grown into a global network of Christian media broadcasting partnerships committed to worldwide evangelism and discipleship. In 2008, The Tide® ministry ended all English-language programming in order to focus on developing and distributing indigenous heart-language content in areas around the world that are less touched by the Gospel. Today, The Tide® ministry works with partners in multiple countries across three continents to broadcast Gospel-centered messages via radio, satellite TV and other media. In order to make disciples and plant churches, The Tide® ministry also provides resources for literature distribution, correspondence courses, discipleship and leadership training activities, and the distribution of radios and media players.
