Syria on the brink: ICC warns of civil war disaster

Christian leader urges U.S. to stay as radical Islamists threaten minorities

WASHINGTON — Syria’s new regime, led by a former al-Qaeda commander, is struggling to unify the country, resulting in the beginning of a full-scale civil war. According to CBN, “Fighting rages across northern Syria with Turkish-backed forces clashing with Kurdish units at the Euphrates River while sectarian battles erupt in the south.”

The Tishreen Dam has been the recent scene of violence between the Turkish-backed forces and HTS and the Kurds; a ceasefire has come into effect, but the Turks are not abiding, resulting in constant drone strikes and artillery shelling.

“The Kurds fought and lost more than 12,000 lives to defeat ISIS. Now, they say the ‘transitional government’ resembles the very caliphate they helped destroy.” Kurds in the region are growing increasingly nervous and distrustful of the new regime.

Jeff King, president of International Christian Concern (ICC) (persecution.org) and a leading expert on religious persecution, is urging the U.S. and countries around the world to step up and secure peace in Syria.

“For more than a decade in Syria and 30 years globally, International Christian Concern has fought persecution,” said King. “Today, Syria is a powder keg ready to explode into civil war. Turkish aggression has shattered the Tishreen Dam ceasefire, while Christians, Kurds and Yazidis face annihilation from a regime birthed from ISIS and al-Qaeda. Without urgent global action to protect these communities and force inclusive governance, we’re staring at a humanitarian disaster. The U.S. must stay to secure peace and stop Syria’s collapse into chaos.”
