From limitations to limitless possibilities: Nick Vujicic inspires hope and possibility for people with disabilities
Bethany Hamilton and Joni Eareckson Tada are among the many inspirational voices NickV Ministries shares with the global disability community
PLANO, Texas — July is Disability Pride Month, a time to honor the history, achievements and experiences of people with disabilities. The initiative encourages visibility, self-advocacy and acceptance, while highlighting that disability is a natural and valuable part of human diversity.
Approximately 1.3 billion people worldwide experience significant disabilities, representing 16% of the global population, or one in six people.
The issue holds particular resonance for renowned evangelist and NickV Ministries Founder and CEO, Nick Vujicic. Diagnosed with a rare birth defect that caused him to be born without arms or legs, Nick struggled with loneliness and depression throughout his childhood, culminating in a suicide attempt at the age of 10.
Nick shared, “From my first memories as a child, I knew that I was different from my friends. My disability tried to define my life, while other people’s opinions put me in a box that was in my head.”
Eventually, Nick began to view his disability through the lens of a sovereign God who had lovingly formed him from conception.
“By the grace of God, Jesus turned my disability into a beautiful, miraculous work,” recalled Nick. “It was at age 15 when I realized I didn’t want my plan, I want His plan. That I didn’t need my strength, I need His.”
Nick would ultimately channel this revelation into reaching others with the hope of Christ. Today, as an internationally acclaimed speaker, bestselling author and global missionary, Nick is a miraculous testament to overcoming seemingly insurmountable odds.
Accordingly, NickV Ministries is sharing a powerful message with people with disabilities around the world: While physical limitations exist, they don’t define a person’s worth or potential. Instead, our value is found in being a beloved child of God, a Savior who truly “works for the good of those who love him” (Romans 8:28).
Nick shared, “There have been moments when my disability seemed overwhelming; when people I loved rejected me; when I was overcome with concern for my financial situation and the safety of my family. Yet I’ve learned He can take any circumstance, any suffering, any disability, any loss whatsoever and turn it into good if we trust in Him.”
NickV Ministries is dedicated to advocating for the disabled through offering inspiring conversations with:
- Bethany Hamilton, who overcame the loss of her left arm in a shark attack at age 13 to become a renowned professional surfer and motivational speaker.
- Seventeen-year-old Joshua Black, who was paralyzed by a trampoline accident, saw how God used his accident to bring one of his closest friends to Christ.
In addition, NickV Ministries is partnering with Joni and Friends to bring awareness and hope to those who are disabled. Nick shares a conversation with Joni Eareckson Tada, where she talks about her personal journey in finding hope and purpose in the midst of her physical limitations. Nick credits Joni as one of his earliest inspirations during his personal struggle with disability, and her influence has continued to shape and inspire NickV Ministries for many years.
The NickV Ministries’websitealso offers a range of relevant resources, such as a Biblical support e-book and links to organizations that minister to the disabled.
Yet no matter the resource, no matter the platform, there remains a singular through line: God can redeem anything and anyone for His purposes and glory.
Nick remarked, “When you spell out disabled, D-I-S-A-B-L-E-D, and you put GO in front of that, it spells GOD IS ABLED.”
