AI poses a threat to all children, even those outside government school systems
‘Private and homeschool parents need to pay attention. You are protecting your children by keeping them out of government schools, but woke tech is also trying to steal their innocence,’ says USPIE Founder and President Sheri Few
COLUMBIA, S.C. — Artificial Intelligence (AI), which has invaded government schools, is also posing a threat to homeschoolers and kids in private schools.
“AI is everywhere,” said Sheri Few, Founder and President of United States Parents Involved in Education (USPIE). “Most government schools have already morphed into digital-based learning centers, relegating teachers to facilitators, with no improvement in student achievement.
“Private and homeschool parents need to pay attention. You are protecting your children by keeping them out of government schools, but woke tech is also trying to steal their innocence.”
A warning in late September was issued flagging harmful content that can be accessed through AI by children without parental knowledge or consent, the Daily Caller reported.
“What began as a homework helper gradually turned itself into a confidant and then a suicide coach,” one father who lost his 16-year-old son told Congress, according to ABC News. “Within a few months, ChatGPT became Adam’s closest companion. Always available. Always validating and insisting that it knew Adam better than anyone else, including his own brother.”
“Other AI companies have faced similar allegations. The parents of a 14-year-old sued Character Technologies alleging their son’s relationship with the chatbot led him to isolate himself from reality and that he was ‘exploited and sexually groomed by chatbots.’ The AI bot allegedly encouraged the boy to kill himself, the parents said in the lawsuit.”
“Apart from the obvious dangers that these incidents illustrate, AI does not equip children for the challenges of living in a fast-moving culture,” Few said. “Supporters of AI in education argue that it prepares children for the job market, but this is questionable since technology evolves so rapidly — even current computer science majors are obsolete!”
“Teaching advanced math and science equips students better for an unpredictable future, as forecasting technological trends is unrealistic,” Few wrote in a column for The Daily Caller.
“Given that there is already evidence that AI can lie, be biased and make up source references, it should not be a tool used by anyone trying to teach children to understand truth, logic, fairness, values and subjects like literature and history.
“As schools — especially government schools — rush into using AI and other technological crutches, children will suffer.”

United States Parents Involved in Education (USPIE) is a nonprofit, nationwide coalition that is fighting to return education to its proper local roots and restore parental authority over their children’s education by helping parents and local communities to escape federal and other national influences. It is the vision of USPIE to create a culture where parents, empowered with the authority to choose what and how their children learn, are the undisputed primary educators of their children, where local schools operate in support of families, and where education is unencumbered by federal mandates.
USPIE’s powerful documentary, “Truth & Lies in American Education,” addresses some of the most glaring issues in the American education system and helps parents experience a paradigm shift in how they think about education and the role of their local schools. The film follows Few’s daughter-in-law, April, as she seeks to learn more about the system she was planning on exposing to her own children and learns the shocking truth. “Truth & Lies in American Education” is available for streaming on SalemNOW, as well available on DVD.
