REDEEM™ introduces new digital experience to simplify health care sharing for Christians

Will Cooper, Executive Vice President: ‘We’re making REDEEM™ as convenient as possible, and our members can access their accounts 24/7’

PEORIA, Ill. REDEEM™, a Christian health care sharing program from Samaritan Ministries International (SMI), has launched a new online experience that makes it easier than ever for members to participate in the sharing process.

“Our goal is to make REDEEM as simple and accessible as possible,” said Executive Vice President Will Cooper. “We’ve created a digital platform that helps members engage with the community, manage their monthly contributions, and see how their support is making a difference.”

Through this new online system, members can view their monthly share amount, track how their shares are being used to support others, and make additional voluntary gifts — such as donations to the Member Assistance Fund.

How REDEEM works

Monthly sharing: Each month, each member’s share contribution helps another member with eligible medical expenses. A small portion of each member’s monthly share contribution supports ministry operations.

Provider payments: After a medical visit, providers send bills to REDEEM for processing. Payments for eligible expenses are made directly to providers from other members’ monthly shares. This keeps the process smooth and efficient.

Guided support: REDEEM’s team walks members through each step of the process, ensuring a smooth and stress-free experience.

Annual Unshareable Amount: Once a family meets its Annual Unshareable Amount, the REDEEM community steps in to share eligible medical costs.

“REDEEM is a faith-based, affordable option that is not health insurance,” Cooper said. “It saves members money because SMI does not profit like insurance companies do. And it aligns with our members’ values and worldview.”

What members are saying

“The REDEEM staff are personable and helpful! I’ve worked with the same person throughout, which made it easy to get my questions answered — she already understood my medical bills.” – Courtney, REDEEM Member

Since its founding in 1994, Samaritan Ministries International (SMI) has helped more than a million Christians enjoy health care freedom by allowing them to choose medical providers and treatments at reasonable cost and without network restrictions while following a biblical pattern of caring for one another’s medical needs.

Accredited by the Healthcare Sharing Accreditation Board, Samaritanhas an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau and serves more than 250,000 members across more than 70,000 households.

REDEEMTMis not health insurance. Government exchange-based health insurance requires signups to occur only during open enrollment periods unless one qualifies for a special enrollment period due to a “life event” such as losing coverage, getting married, moving, or having a baby. In contrast, individuals can sign up with REDEEM at any time. REDEEM members are exempt from insurance coverage mandates and penalties in those states that have them (i.e., California, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Washington, D.C.).

REDEEM HealthShare Ministry offers many advantages, including:

  • No network restrictions. REDEEM members have the freedom of choice for their health care provider, hospital, and pharmacy that works best for them.
  • The unique direct-sharing approach does more than just help members financially; it also encourages a biblical community based on prayer. Due to member efforts, monthly shares are hundreds of dollars less per month than health insurance premiums.

To understand how health care sharing is not insurance, and to understand the differences from insurance, prospective members are required to review REDEEM’s guidelines before joining.
