Amid AI companionship’s rise, CBMC calls men back to Christ-centered relationships

As millions turn to artificial intelligence for connection, Christian Business Men’s Connection points men toward authentic brotherhood, discipleship and faith lived out in the workplace

CHATTANOOGA, TN — As artificial intelligence chatbots become increasingly woven into daily life — and even personal relationships — Christian Business Men’s Connection (CBMC) urges men to pursue something technology cannot replicate: authentic, Christ-centered relationships grounded in faith, accountability and real-world community.

Recent reporting by Fox News, Newsweek and CNBC highlights the rapid rise of emotionally responsive AI companions and the growing number of Americans engaging in some form of personal relationship with artificial intelligence. A Newsweek survey found that more than half of U.S. adults have had a relationship with an AI system, whether as a friend, colleague or confidant. Experts have raised concerns about the psychological and social effects of substituting artificial interaction for human connection.

Against that backdrop, CBMC says the hunger driving men toward digital companionship underscores a deeper spiritual need, one that an essentially secular AI chatbot — lacking a biblical worldview — cannot supply.

“Men were not created for isolation, or for synthetic substitutes for real relationships,” said Matt Trayler, director of programs for CBMC. “We are seeing a generation searching for meaning, identity and belonging. CBMC points men back to Jesus and into authentic brotherhood where real transformation happens.”

At CBMC, discipleship begins with connection. The ministry’s model centers on bringing Christian men together in the context of their professional lives, helping them integrate faith into work, relationships and daily decision-making. Through in-person teams, peer groups and mentoring relationships, CBMC provides structured environments where men can build trust, grow spiritually and impact their workplaces for Christ.

CBMC teams operate nationwide, connecting business and professional men in local communities to foster relationships, encourage ethical leadership and promote Gospel-centered living. These teams create spaces for men to support one another personally and professionally while sharpening each other’s faith.

A cornerstone of CBMC’s strategy isConnect3 (C3) teams, which focus on three priorities: connecting to God, connecting to one another and connecting to the cause of bringing the Gospel into the workplace. C3 teams meet for fellowship, prayer and Bible study, emphasizing intentional relationships and spiritual multiplication.

Within C3 teams, participants invest in one another’s spiritual growth while learning how to live out their faith authentically at work.

“In a culture increasingly mediated by screens and algorithms, men are longing for real connection,” Trayler said. “C3 teams provide a place where men can be known, challenged and encouraged, while discovering how God wants to use them in their workplaces and communities.”

For many involved in CBMC, the impact is deeply personal. One participant described the ministry as a rare place of genuine fellowship: “It’s an opportunity to connect with strong men of faith who can show men how to demonstrate God in my business and relationships. It’s one of the few places I currently connect with other Christians.”

While technology continues to reshape how Americans work, communicate and socialize, CBMC says spiritual formation and relational discipleship remain irreplaceable.

“No algorithm can disciple a man, hold him accountable or walk with him through the real challenges of life,” Trayler said. “Our mission is to see men’s lives, families and workplaces transformed by God, and that happens through the Gospel and through real relationships.”
