The Tide® ministry shares the Gospel in three continents, bringing Good News to Christians facing persecution

For 79 years, The Tide has been sharing hope found in Scripture across the world

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — The recently published Open Doors World Watch List 2026 revealed how Christian persecution is expanding, reaching an unprecedented scale worldwide. For ministries like The Tide® (www.thetide.org), an international Christian outreach committed to worldwide evangelism and discipleship, this is a call to further serve Christian brothers and sisters facing the plight of persecution.

“According to Open Doors’ World Watch List 2026, Pakistan ranks No. 8, Afghanistan No. 11, and India No. 12 among countries with extreme Christian persecution — all areas where The Tide operates,” said Executive Director Don Shenk. “Additionally, we work in Cameroon, bordering Nigeria, amid reports of ongoing violence against Christians, including kidnappings and massacres by Fulani herdsmen.”

Since 1946, The Tide has been touching hearts worldwide, sharing the Gospel across three continents in over 35 languages. Through Christian media broadcasts and activities like discipleship, leadership development, church planting and short-term mission trips, The Tide leads people into life-transforming relationships with Jesus Christ.

What began as a single local radio station in central Pennsylvania is now a multifaceted global ministry reaching 14 countries and regions. Building on the momentum of The Tide’s Diamond Vision unveiled in 2021 for the ministry’s 75th anniversary, the ministry continues to expand partnerships, introduce media outreaches in new languages and formats, and connect more people with the Gospel in their native tongues. Core principles guiding the ministry toward its 80th anniversary emphasize organizational strength, partnership development and resource growth.

“After 79 years of faithful service, The Tide ministry’s greatest joy remains in spreading the Gospel message and seeing lives transformed in some of the hardest places on earth,” says Shenk. “From local radio roots in Pennsylvania to reaching people across Asia, Africa and Europe, we stand committed to bringing hope, strengthening the persecuted Church, and raising up new generations of believers — until every heart has heard the life-changing message of Jesus Christ.”

From its humble origins in 1946 as a local Gospel radio broadcast in Chambersburg, PA, The Tide® ministry has grown into a global network of Christian media broadcasting partnerships committed to worldwide evangelism and discipleship. In 2008, The Tide® ministry ended all English-language programming in order to focus on developing and distributing indigenous heart-language content in areas around the world that are less touched by the Gospel. Today, The Tide® ministry works with partners in multiple countries across three continents to broadcast Gospel-centered messages via radio, satellite TV and other media. In order to make disciples and plant churches, The Tide® ministry also provides resources for literature distribution, correspondence courses, discipleship and leadership training activities, and the distribution of radios and media players.
