Historic detransitioner verdict underscores moral and medical concerns, says SES President
‘Assuming medical ‘needs’ for a child regarding gender constitutes nothing less than the literal definition of child abuse,’ says SES President Judge Phil Ginn
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A jury has delivered a historic verdict in favor of a detransitioner, marking the first successful medical-malpractice lawsuit of its kind. The plaintiff, who underwent a double mastectomy at age 16 as part of “gender-affirming” care, argued she lacked the mental and emotional maturity to consent to an irreversible, life-altering medical procedure. The ruling reinforces long-standing concerns about physicians’ push for permanent surgical interventions for minors.
Southern Evangelical Seminary (SES, www.ses.edu) President Judge Phil Ginn commented on the case, stating, “The concept of transgenderism is certainly and almost suddenly a divisive subject in America. While approximately 1 % of the population fits into this proposed category, from the public conversation, you would think that the numbers are far more significant than they are. Suffice it to say that because of our belief in the truth of Scripture and our understanding of natural law, we at SES do not believe that anyone should seek to change himself or herself in any way from what God created them to be.
“With that being said, what one person believes about their gender, whether fictional or not, is one thing. To impose one’s belief on a minor child is quite another altogether. Assuming medical ‘needs’ for a child regarding gender, and an adult, even a parent, further forcing medical procedures and drugs upon the body of a minor, constitutes nothing less than the literal definition of child abuse.
“After this verdict, I see no reason why this scenario ought not lead to more major litigation and astronomical recoveries. More importantly, this is precisely one of the reasons why the law should be a justifiable resort to rectify wrongs committed against a vulnerable population who do not have the ability to protect themselves from such abuse and horrific damage.”
