USPIE joins Rep. Barry Moore in introducing H.R. 2691 to return education to the states

USPIE’s Michigan PIE President and Board Member: ‘We really want to get this done without seeing key functions parceled out to other agencies. It’s time to pull the plug on the federal educational behemoth’

COLUMBIA, S.C. United States Parents Involved in Education (USPIE) has been working to close the U.S. Department of Education and return control to parents and local communities.

Most recently, the organization has been working with Congressman Barry Moore from Alabama, who introduced H.R. 2691 to abolish the U.S. Department of Education, end all federal education programs, and transfer funding to the states.

“USPIE has met with him and his staff and encouraged him,” said Melanie Kurdys, USPIE’s Michigan PIE president and board member. “We really want to get this done, without seeing key functions parceled out to other agencies. It’s time to pull the plug on the federal educational behemoth.”

USPIE has also met with U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg of Michigan, who chairs the House Education and Workforce committee, where the bill is waiting.

“Chairman Walberg is hopeful Republicans on the committee can come together to support the bill. If they do, he indicated he would hold a vote to get it out of the committee and encourage House Speaker Mike Johnson to put it on the floor for a vote,” Kurdys said.

Among other things, H.R. 2691 will:

  • Repeal all programs administered by the Department of Education
  • Close the Department of Education
  • Transfer only one program to another department, Pell Grants
  • Block grant money to the states based on income taxes paid
  • Offer a means to implement real tax relief to parents not using government schools

“Other members of Congress have expressed support for closing the Department of Education, which we sincerely appreciate,” Kurdys said. “But the other bills are not as effective.”

From USPIE’s email to Congress in support of H.R. 2691:

“The U.S. Department of Education is unconstitutional, wastes taxpayer dollars, fails to improve outcomes, and often drives harmful teaching practices through federal incentives. Since its creation in 1979, the U.S. Department of Education has not improved student outcomes, which are now at record lows.

USPIE is committed to empowering parents and local communities to take the lead in education, ensuring decisions are made closer to home for better results. This solution reflects the will of the American people and is supported through President Trump’s decisive Executive Orders. But Executive action alone will not end federal intrusion.

“Congress must act to permanently remove federal involvement in education. H.R. 2691, if enacted, will terminate all federal education programs and transfer funding authority to individual states.”

USPIE created a blueprint to close the Department of Education and end the federal education mandates.

“The time is right,” USPIE notes in the blueprint. “Serious conversations are happening throughout the country about the legitimate and effective role of the federal government in education. Many on both sides of the political aisle agree the federal government has become unreasonably intrusive and ineffective in education policy and practice.”

To hear from USPIE’s Founder and President, Sheri Few, tune in to the latest episode of USPIE’s podcast, “Unmasking Government Schools with Sheri Few,” on Tuesday, Feb. 10, where Few is joined by special guests Don Landi and Heath Gilbert. Landi and Gilbert are two Missouri citizens who were banned from their local school district after raising concerns about sexually explicit books, transparency failures, and alleged misconduct by school officials. Their story raises serious questions about parental rights, First Amendment protections, and whether school districts believe they are above the Constitution. USPIE’s “Unmasking Government Schools with Sheri Few” is a weekly podcast that exposes the dangers of education shaped by government bureaucrats and social engineers, while exploring practical ways to protect children and preserve America’s freedom. United States Parents Involved in Education (USPIEis a nonprofit, nationwide coalition that is fighting to return education to its proper local roots and restore parental authority over their children’s education by helping parents and local communities to escape federal and other national influences. It is the vision of USPIE to create a culture where parents, empowered with the authority to choose what and how their children learn, are the undisputed primary educators of their children, where local schools operate in support of families, and where education is unencumbered by federal mandates.

USPIE’s powerful documentary, “Truth & Lies in American Education,” addresses some of the most glaring issues in the American education system and helps parents experience a paradigm shift in how they think about education and the role of their local schools. The film follows Few’s daughter-in-law, April, as she seeks to learn more about the system she was planning on exposing to her own children and learns the shocking truth. “Truth & Lies in American Education” is available for streaming on SalemNOW, as well as available on DVD.
