Running with purpose: The Tide’s Race to Share the Gospel Around the World

‘Take part in Gospel work that spans continents, whether you’re running, walking, biking, hiking or praying from thousands of miles away’

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. Throughout Scripture, the Lord reminds Christians that sharing the Gospel is not something to delay. “Now is the day of salvation” (2 Corinthians 6:2). Jesus Himself spoke of the urgency when He told His disciples that the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few (Matthew 9:37–38). And as the apostle Paul encouraged Timothy to persevere, to remain disciplined, and to finish the race well (2 Timothy 4:7), Christians are reminded that walking with Christ is both a calling and a commitment.

That same urgency and perseverance are beautifully reflected in The Tide® (www.thetide.org) ministry’s Race to Share the Gospel Around the World.

“This annual fundraising event invites people just like you to take part in Gospel work that spans continents, whether you’re running, walking, biking, hiking or praying from thousands of miles away,” said Don Shenk, Executive Director of The Tide. “Through The Tide’s mission of sharing God’s Word in people’s heart languages via radio, television and digital media, every step taken in the Race becomes part of a much larger story God is writing across the globe.”

Since 2022, the Race has made a meaningful Gospel impact in regions where hope is desperately needed:

  • 2022 – Afghanistan: Just days before the Race kickoff, a suicide bombing occurred near one of The Tide’s Milestone Marker locations. God, in His sovereignty, knew the pain that would unfold and provided a way for Christians around the world to lift that exact place up in prayer in a moment when it was needed most.
  • 2023 – Middle East (focus on Yemen): Through Race support, The Tide expanded its language outreach to include Syrian and Lebanese programming, opening doors for even more people to hear the Gospel in a language that speaks directly to their hearts.
  • 2024 – Balkan Region (focus on Albania): Funds raised are helping to offset the cost of expanding television outreach into Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro and Serbia, strengthening believers and reaching new audiences throughout the region.
  • 2025 – Cameroon: Combined efforts from the Race, a special Vacation Bible School project, and year-end giving made it possible to build a well in northern Cameroon and purchase three motorcycles, equipping The Tide’s “boots on the ground” pastors to follow up personally with listeners and share the love of Christ more effectively.

This year’s Race invites participants everywhere to come alongside what God is doing in Thailand, a nation where access to the Gospel remains limited but hearts are open.

On Saturday, May 16, The Tide is hosting an in-person Race to Share the Gospel 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk and a 5K Race at Norlo Park in Fayetteville, PA. All are welcome to enjoy a FREE Family Fun Day for the whole community.

For those who are unable to attend the in-person Race, The Tide is hosting a 16-Day Virtual Challenge. Kicking off on May 16 and running through May 31, participants can run, walk/hike, or bike a 13-mile virtual race path from anywhere in the world. As miles are logged, Milestone Markers unlock prayer suggestions tied to real locations on the map, with the goal of virtually flooding city streets with prayer over 16 days.

“Whether you join us in person, participate virtually, or simply commit to praying, the Race is an intentional and active way to be part of God’s global work, helping people to hear the Gospel in their own language and experience the hope found only in Christ,” remarked Shenk. “Let’s run with purpose. Let’s pray with urgency. And together, let’s help finish the race God has set before us.”

From its humble origins in 1946 as a local Gospel radio broadcast in Chambersburg, PA, The Tide® ministry has grown into a global network of Christian media broadcasting partnerships committed to worldwide evangelism and discipleship. In 2008, The Tide® ministry ended all English-language programming in order to focus on developing and distributing indigenous heart-language content in areas around the world that are less touched by the Gospel. Today, The Tide® ministry works with partners in multiple countries across three continents to broadcast Gospel-centered messages via radio, satellite TV and other media. In order to make disciples and plant churches, The Tide® ministry also provides resources for literature distribution, correspondence courses, discipleship and leadership training activities, and the distribution of radios and media players.
