Truth & Liberty condemns Dearborn Mosque memorial honoring Iranian leader

Organization warns event praising Ayatollah Khamenei and condemning US highlights ideological conflict with American principles

WOODLAND PARK, Colo.Truth & Liberty warns that a recent memorial event at a Shiite mosque in Dearborn, Michigan, honoring Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, reveals what the organization says is a growing ideological clash between radical Islamic doctrine and American values.

According to news reports, a prominent Shiite group in Dearborn hosted a memorial service for the late Iranian leader over the weekend, describing Khamenei as a “martyr” and accusing the United States of being led by Satan. During the gathering, a poet recited verses claiming America was founded by “devil‑worshipers” and controlled by “devil‑worshiping Freemasons.”

Truth & Liberty leaders said the event reflects the influence of extremist religious ideology that directly contradicts the principles of freedom, equality and constitutional government embraced in the United States.

“Islamic law, called ‘Sharia,’ is fundamentally inconsistent with American ideals of equality and freedom for all. Americans need to know the truth about this ideology before it’s too late,” said Richard Harris, executive director of Truth & Liberty and host of the “Truth & Liberty Show.”

“Americans are often told that Islam functions like other religions in the West, but Islamic law is more than a set of moral teachings. It is a system that governs every area of political and social life. And, under the Islamic doctrine of Jihad, all Muslims are commanded to fight for the imposition of this law across the globe.” Harris said. “That reality has profound implications for nations founded on individual liberty and the rule of law.”

The Dearborn memorial also included rhetoric portraying the United States as morally corrupt and spiritually aligned with Satan, statements Harris said reveal hostility toward Western democratic institutions.

“When a religious gathering in the United States praises an Iranian regime figure and denounces America as satanic, it should raise serious questions about what ideology is being promoted,” Harris said. “Americans deserve to have an honest conversation about the beliefs driving those messages.”

Khamenei served for decades as Iran’s supreme leader, overseeing a government that enforces strict Islamic law and has been accused by Western governments of sponsoring terrorism across the Middle East. Iranian leaders have frequently called for resistance against the United States and its allies.

Harris argued the Iranian regime’s policies reveal the dangers of mixing religious authority with state power.

“The Iranian regime openly promotes a revolutionary ideology that seeks global influence and the expansion of Islamic governance,” Harris said. “When that worldview is celebrated in American communities, it deserves scrutiny from citizens and policymakers alike.”

Truth & Liberty hopes the controversy surrounding the Dearborn event will encourage broader public discussion about the relationship between religious freedom, immigration policy and national security.

“America’s founding principles depend on a shared commitment to liberty, equality and the rule of law,” Harris said. “Those principles must remain the foundation of our national identity and public life.”
