California superintendent gets June Millstone Award for partnering with LGBTQ activist center
USPIE: ‘the state of California is indoctrinating children and funneling them into secret counseling services without their parents’ knowledge’
COLUMBIA, S.C. — A California school district has teamed up with an LGBTQ+ center to brainwash children, according to United States Parents Involved in Education (USPIE).
USPIE’s June 2026 Millstone Award goes toDarren Knowles, superintendent of Pomona Unified School District, for allowing $300,000 in taxpayer money to be spent on a “mentoring program” with an LGBTQ pressure group, Pomona Valley Pride (PVP).
The district signed a memorandum of understanding for the previous school year with PVP to provide
“affirming programs, resources, and community care” to minors ages 12 and up.
“This is yet another example of toxic miseducation in governments schools,” said USPIE Founder and President Sheri Few. “Once again, the state of California is indoctrinating children and funneling them into secret counseling services without their parents’ knowledge.”
USPIE gives a monthly Millstone Award to “the person involved in government schools who has committed the most egregious acts against children. These individuals have taken steps to funnel wokeness and other harmful pedagogies into America’s classrooms.”
Under the memorandum obtained by the Daily Signal, the pride center was to provide “academic support, mentoring, and tutoring services to all students in middle and high school who identify themselves LGBTQ+ and their families to address their unique needs and challenges.”
Mark Trammell, CEO of the Center for American Liberty, which discovered the scheme through a public records request, said California parents should be “horrified.”
“California schools have become laboratories for progressive social activism, and they’re counting on parents never seeing the documents.”
The schools “are using ‘gender support plans’ that treat parents as obstacles, including sections specifically targeting so-called unsupportive parents,” he said. “These plans direct schools to funnel children into secret counseling services that California politicians require schools to hide from parents once a child turns 12.”
“This is the tip of the iceberg,” Few said. “Schools keep getting caught pushing LGBTQ behavior and trying to change girls into boys and vice versa without their parents finding out. This kind of child abuse should not only be defunded but should generate lawsuits and even criminal charges.”
“ALL federal funding to schools must stop, and parents must be on guard to protect their children from school policies like this.”
Tennessee takes the false idol of ‘pride’ out of June
On a more positive note, Tennessee legislators have recognized the importance of the nuclear family by making June “Nuclear Family Month,” CBN reports.
“USPIE applauds Tennessee for acknowledging the nuclear family in June, instead of Pride Month, and the role parents have in raising their children, not schools forcing ideologies behind parents’ backs,” Few said.
The resolution, signed into law by Gov. Bill Lee on April 9, defines the nuclear family as “consisting of one husband, one wife, and any biological, adopted, or fostered children.” It declares it as “God’s design for familial structure” and “the bedrock of society since the creation of the world.” It further states that “strong nuclear families lead to better outcomes for children, including lower rates of poverty, crime, substance abuse, and mental health issues,” and that “the nuclear family is under attack in our beloved State and nation.”
“For years, LGBTQ activists have hijacked the month of June, formerly known for Father’s Day and as the prime month of weddings,” Few said. “Now, in Tennessee, at least, instead of the false idol of ‘pride,’ the state is recognizing the crucial role played by the nuclear family – mom, dad and the kids.”

United States Parents Involved in Education (USPIE) is a nonprofit, nationwide coalition that is fighting to return education to its proper local roots and restore parental authority over their children’s education by helping parents and local communities to escape federal and other national influences. It is the vision of USPIE to create a culture where parents, empowered with the authority to choose what and how their children learn, are the undisputed primary educators of their children, where local schools operate in support of families, and where education is unencumbered by federal mandates.
USPIE’s powerful documentary, “Truth & Lies in American Education,” addresses some of the most glaring issues in the American education system and helps parents experience a paradigm shift in how they think about education and the role of their local schools. The film follows Few’s daughter-in-law, April, as she seeks to learn more about the system she was planning on exposing to her own children and learns the shocking truth. “Truth & Lies in American Education” is available for streaming on SalemNOW, as well as on DVD.
