New poll reveals decline in Americans’ support for LGBTQ+ issues
AFA Action CEO Walker Wildmon: ‘As more people see the dangerous real-world consequences of gender ideology… they are asking harder questions and rejecting ideas they were once told to accept without debate’
TUPELO, Miss. — According to a new Gallup poll, Americans’ acceptance of LGBTQ+ issues has fallen and is in a downward trend, with fewer supporting same-sex marriage or gay relationships as morally permissible. While 51 percent of Americans are in favor of same-sex marriage, that number has decreased by six percentage points from its 2022 and 2023 peak. In addition, moral acceptance of LGBTQ+ relationships has dropped to its lowest level since 2016, and public acceptance of gender transition has also fallen sharply within the last five years.
Walker Wildmon, CEO of AFA Action, the governmental affairs affiliate of the American Family Association, suggests that the recognition of gender ideology harms has led Americans to abandon once-accepted beliefs.
“For years, Americans have assumed that support for LGBTQ ideology would only move in one direction,” Wildmon said. “This polling suggests otherwise. As more people see the dangerous real-world consequences of gender ideology — especially its impact on children, parental rights and women’s sports — they are asking harder questions and rejecting ideas they were once told to accept without debate. The decline in support for gender transitioning is particularly telling. Americans have not become less compassionate; they have become more willing to stand for truth, common sense and reality. May this trend continue.”
