As Myanmar faces ongoing civil war and persecution, CEF® helps children find hope in Jesus

Fred Pry, CEF Vice President of Administration: ‘The only real hope for these children is the Gospel of Jesus Christ’

ST. LOUIS — The Southeast Asian nation of Myanmar is facing a humanitarian crisis, as years of civil war, political instability and natural disasters have displaced millions and disrupted communities across the country. For many Myanmar Christians, these challenges are compounded by religious discrimination and persecution, forcing believers to navigate both the nation’s turmoil and hardships unique to their faith.

Despite these difficulties, Child Evangelism Fellowship® (CEF®) continues to bring the hope of the Gospel to children and families throughout Myanmar. Through biblical teaching, intentional discipleship and encouragement, CEF workers are serving communities affected by conflict, displacement and uncertainty. As many people search for hope, CEF is helping local believers share the message of Christ and strengthen the faith of the next generation.

According to Fred Pry, CEF Vice President of Administration, “Even amid conflict and uncertainty, God continues to create opportunities for ministry. We are grateful for the faithful workers who are investing in children, equipping local believers and sharing the Good News of Christ with families throughout Myanmar.”

Key to the organization’s efforts is the Good News Club®, a Bible-centered ministry where children learn about God through Bible lessons, Scripture memorization, songs, activities, and discipleship, helping them develop a strong foundation in the good of the Bible.

Through this ministry, CEF workers are seeing children respond to the Good News of Jesus. During a recent three-day camp, a Good News Club teacher was able to lead a young girl to Christ. Beyond camp and special events, this leader spiritually cares for 25 children, teaching and guiding them daily with the Word of God.

To expand this outreach, CEF is also investing in local believers through specialized training for children’s ministry. Participants gain confidence as they learn proven ways to share God’s Word with children. One teacher recently conducted a Teacher’s Training Session with 96 participants; she also led an online Bible study attended by 30 children. Through these efforts, the hope of Jesus continues to reach children in many different circumstances.

In addition to reaching children online, CEF is using digital platforms to equip ministry leaders. A CEF leader recently taught an online training course completed by 27 teachers. Many participants began the course unsure how to share the Gospel with children. By the end, they reported having greater confidence and a deeper commitment to children’s ministry.

As a result of this expanded training, CEF is seeing children’s lives transformed by the sharing of the message of the Gospel across Myanmar.

One teacher recalled, “I first met two siblings at a birthday party, and they have now been studying the Word of God with me for five months. They are wonderful students who memorize Scripture and always listen to the lessons with great interest. Both of them have accepted the truth and invited Jesus Christ into their lives as their personal Savior, and they never miss a chance to pray.”

Another Good News Club® teacher in Myanmar also got the chance to reconnect with students she had taught at a children’s camp six years earlier.

“It was a blessing to see them still walking faithfully with the living God,” she said. “Even though they have lost their homes due to the hardships of war and have become displaced, seeing them trust and take refuge in the Lord brings me so much joy.”

Pry summarized, “While the challenges facing Myanmar are immense, we continue to see God working in remarkable ways. These moments remind us that the only real hope for these children is the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”
