What country is God opening the door to next? The Tide® casts vision for new nations as 80th anniversary approaches

As The Tide’s Diamond Vision enters its final chapter, the ministry sets its sights on unreached regions — and the world’s 3-plus billion people still waiting to hear the Gospel

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — More than 3 billion people on earth have never had an opportunity to respond to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. According to Global Partners, more than 4 in 10 people worldwide live without access to the Good News — a staggering reality that stands at the heart of Christ’s Great Commission. Today, as Global CP notes, the majority of the world’s population is not Christian, and the call to make disciples of all nations remains as urgent as ever.

For nearly eight decades, The Tide® (www.thetide.org) has answered that call, and as the ministry approaches its 80th anniversary, it is not slowing down. It is asking a bold new question: What country is God opening the door to next?

As it approaches its 80th anniversary milestone, The Tide is preparing to unveil a renewed and expanded vision — one that includes a strategic initiative to identify and enter new geographic regions where the Gospel has yet to reach. This vision will be formally introduced at the 80th anniversary celebration this October, marking not just a milestone but a bold new chapter in the ministry’s global work.

“As we reflect on nearly 80 years of God’s faithfulness, we are not looking back — we are looking out,” said Don Shenk, executive director of The Tide. “Our vision has always been to go where the Gospel is least accessible, and we believe God is opening new doors to countries and communities that have never heard the saving message of Jesus Christ. We are committed to walking through those doors.”

This new direction is a natural progression of The Tide Diamond Vision, the five-pillar strategic framework the ministry and its partners launched when The Tide passed its 75th anniversary in 2021. That vision was built around five core principles:

  • Amplify — Increasing ministry initiatives so that more people can experience God’s grace
  • Magnify — Growing the support base to an expanded demographic
  • Solidify — Developing and supplying resources to help new believers grow in faith
  • Verify — Measuring the effectiveness of ministry activities to demonstrate faithful stewardship
  • Glorify — Ensuring that all the ministry does brings glory to God

As The Tide Diamond Vision wraps up this year, the ministry is now building on the Amplify pillar — expanding reach, identifying unreached areas and assessing partner capacity to determine where The Tide can extend its presence and impact most effectively. One of the key strategic actions under this initiative is a thorough assessment of the vision and current reach of The Tide’s partners, enabling the identification of regions where the ministry can grow.

This work aligns with The Tide’s ongoing priority to focus on regions with limited access to the Gospel — the same conviction that led the ministry to end all English-language programming in 2008 in order to develop indigenous heart-language content for areas less touched by the good news of Jesus Christ.

“God has been faithful for nearly 80 years, and we believe the best chapters of this ministry are still ahead,” remarked Shenk. “The question we are asking is not whether God will open doors; He always does. The question is whether we are ready to walk through them. The Tide is preparing to do exactly that — to broaden our reach, identify new strategic regions and bring the hope of Jesus Christ to communities that have been waiting, often without knowing it, for someone to come.”

From its humble origins in 1946 as a local Gospel radio broadcast in Chambersburg, PA, The Tide® ministry has grown into a global network of Christian media broadcasting partnerships committed to worldwide evangelism and discipleship. In 2008, The Tide ministry ended all English-language programming in order to focus on developing and distributing indigenous heart-language content in areas around the world that are less touched by the Gospel. Today, The Tide ministry works with partners in multiple countries across three continents to broadcast Gospel-centered messages via radio, satellite TV and other media. In order to make disciples and plant churches, The Tide ministry also provides resources for literature distribution, correspondence courses, discipleship and leadership training activities, and the distribution of radios and media players.
