AFA petition supports Christian MLB players who didn’t bend the knee to gay pride
‘The message was clear: support the approved ideology and you’ll be celebrated; express your Christian faith and you’ll be punished,’ said AFA Action CEO Walker Wildmon
TUPELO, Miss. — The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has reportedly launched a civil rights investigation into Major League Baseball (MLB) following allegations that Christian players were threatened with fines for displaying Bible verses during a team-sponsored Pride event. According to reporting by Townhall, the investigation stems from concerns that MLB may have applied a different standard to religious expression than it has to other ideological messages displayed by players.
The controversy arose after San Francisco Giants players Landen Roupp, JT Brubaker and Ryan Walker reportedly wrote “Gen.9:12-16” on their caps during the team’s Pride Night event, referencing the biblical account of God’s rainbow covenant with Noah. American Family Association (AFA) has also launched a petition encouraging supporters to stand with these players and defend their right to express their faith without discrimination. The petition is available at AFA Petition Supporting Christian MLB Players.
According to Walker Wildmon, CEO of AFA Action, the governmental affairs affiliate of the American Family Association, the allegations highlight a growing double standard toward Christians in American institutions.
“The DOJ is right to investigate these allegations, but the bigger issue is the anti-Christian double standard Americans have watched unfold for years,” said Wildmon. “The MLB had no problem promoting Pride Night and requiring players to wear a symbol that has been repurposed to advance a political and cultural agenda. But when Christian players responded with a Bible verse pointing to the true meaning of the rainbow, they were threatened with fines. This is a flagrant double standard and unmistakable discrimination. AFA Action stands with Landen Roupp, JT Brubaker and Ryan Walker, and we encourage Americans to sign AFA’s petition and stand with them as they defend their faith in the face of increasing hostility.”
